Hayden Christensen (With Cape & Lightsaber) Fights Obi-Wan In New Image

A new behind-the-scenes image from the Star Wars creative team shows Hayden Christensen donning a cape and lightsaber fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi. Christensen is making his franchise return alongside Ewan McGregor for the eponymous Disney+ series picking up 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. The series will follow Kenobi as he lives in exile on Tatooine and watches over young Luke Skywalker from afar, though must embark on an adventure to protect the future hero’s location when the Sith track him down.

Alongside Christensen and McGregor, the cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi will feature the Star Wars returns of Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Owen and Beru Whitesun Lars. The series will also mark the franchise debuts of Moses Ingram as Reva/Third Sister, Indira Varma as a yet-unnamed Imperial officer, Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor, Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother, Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine and Rory Ross. With Obi-Wan Kenobi finally right around the corner from premiering on Disney+, audiences are getting an excited behind-the-scenes glimpse at one major player’s return.

As part of the publication’s new cover story, Vanity Fair got an expansive behind-the-scenes look to the growing Star Wars TV universe. Included in their visit was a photo of Hayden Christensen donning a cape and wielding a lightsaber and fighting with Obi-Wan Kenobi stunt double Ross Kohnstam. Check out the exciting BTS look below:

Though it may not be in the show itself, the BTS Obi-Wan Kenobi image should create some excitement amongst Star Wars fans for offering the first proper look at Hayden Christensen’s return to the franchise. Given the upcoming series will see Christensen return as Darth Vader, most have understandably thought that Christensen’s face will remain covered by the iconic Vader mask and suit, though the star has teased an intense physical transformation to don Vader’s suit. The BTS image offers a decent look at Christensen’s bulked-up physique for the new series as he battles with stunt double Ross Kohnstam in preparation for filming.

More than just Christensen’s return, audiences are eager for Obi-Wan Kenobi featuring a dramatic rematch between the titular Jedi and Darth Vader as teased by early concept art for the series. Christensen has built further anticipation for Vader’s new character arc in the show, teasing that Vader’s Jedi hunting is a more personal quest than simply following orders from Emperor Palpatine, making him the terrifying force to be reckoned with seen in the original Star Wars trilogy. The wait for Christensen’s return is nearly over as Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to premiere on Disney+ on May 27.
