Eight explosive football interviews there was no coming back from – from Ronaldo to Roy Keane

Cristiano Ronaldo sent shockwaves through the football world with his explosive interview ripping into Manchester United.

No one was safe as Ronaldo took aim at everyone from the club's chefs and Wayne Rooney to boss Erik ten Hag and former manager Ralf Rangnick. The 37-year-old's erratic behaviour even led fans to claim that Lionel Messi is clearly the GOAT over the disgruntled Portugal international.

And it's unlikely he'll return to Old Trafford after the World Cup following his tell-all interview with Piers Morgan. But Ronaldo isn't the first player to take aim at his employers with dire consequences. Here Daily Star Sport takes a deeper delve into some of those stars and the theatrics that left them looking for a job elsewhere.

Roy Keane – MUTV

Keane's United career was cut short after he verbally attacked his team-mates

Ronaldo's former team-mate performed similar antics to the forward when he conducted a brutal interview in-house interview with MUTV that was so harsh it was never aired. The fiery Irishman ripped into his team-mates after United lost 4-1 to Middlesbrough in 2005.

Keane passed fierce judgement on everyone from Rio Ferdinand to Edwin van der Sar for their poor performances in the game. But it would be the last time he got to spew his venom as Sir Alex Ferguson swiftly drew the curtain on Keane's illustrious United career.

Just two months later, Keane was playing for Celtic for a short period, before trying his hand at management. Nowadays Keane is one of the most opinionated critics in the game and has leapt to Ronaldo's defence on several occasions.

Dean Henderson – talkSPORT

Dean Henderson is another United star who berated the club

There seems to be an air of rebellion at Man United as another of their stars – Dean Henderson – also let rip at the club in an interview. Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan this summer, but it's not likely he'll play for United again following his ruthless comments aimed at the club.

Henderson was fuming after spending the season on the bench after he claims United promised him the No1 spot. However, he insists the Red Devils reneged on their vow and left him rotting on the sidelines, an act he labelled 'criminal'.

At the time of his interview with talkSPORT, Henderson said he was happy he made the switch to Forest. Although he might be having second thoughts as the club languish in 18th spot in the Premier League at present.

Lionel Messi – Goal

Messi staged a protest interview of his own to enforce a move away from Barcelona

Lionel Messi has been applauded for his impeccable sportsmanship throughout his career. Fans also hoisted Messi above Ronaldo on the GOAT list after the Portuguese star's surprise sit-down with Piers.

But they're perhaps forgetting the Argentine maverick had a prima-donna moment of his own when he attempted to force a move away from Barcelona during a chat with Goal. While declaring his love for the Catalan giants, Messi explained his reasons for wanting to leave.

And he soon got his wish as he subsequently headed to PSG. But his interview wasn't too detrimental as Barca are said to be plotting an audacious swoop to lull Messi back to the Nou Camp next summer when his PSG contract ends.

Romelu Lukaku – Sky Italia

Lukaku shocked fans when he announced he wanted to leave Chelsea

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku came out with an electrifying interview of his own when he revealed he wanted to leave Chelsea last season and return to Inter Milan, who he left just months prior to head to Stamford Bridge. Lukaku delivered a bolt from the blue when he revealed his love for Inter, who he insisted he would've stayed with if they had offered him a new contract.

Lukaku's words angered Chelsea fans, and he was axed from the first team for a brief period. The Blues then granted him his wish and shipped him back to Inter in the summer, with supporters doubtful that he'd ever return.

But in a shock twist of events, Lukaku has been tipped to come back to Stamford Bridge at the end of season. And if rumours are to be believed he's set to be joined by none other than Ronaldo – to spearhead a new look attack for the Blues.

Harry Kane – The Overlap

Kane shocked fans when he admitted he was considering a move away from Tottenham

Tottenham icon Harry Kane dropped a bombshell when he revealed to Gary Neville on The Overlap that he wouldn't rule out a move away from Tottenham. Kane explained he wanted to win trophies, and his admission led to interest from Manchester City and Man United.

At one point it looked like Kane was on the verge of heading to City, but tough negotiator Daniel Levy refused to accept Pep Guardiola's side's bid. Levy's robustness culminated in City backing off and Kane staying at White Hart Lane.

However, Spurs face another challenge from Bayern Munich this summer, as the German side see Kane as the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski. And although he hasn't done an interview this time, reports suggest Kane is open to joining the German giants.

Yaya Toure – France Football

Yaya Toure was an integral part of Manchester City's team during their ascent to the summit of English football. His ingenuity helped drive the Citzyens to their first Prem title in 2012, and he led them to two more before hanging up his boots.

But the Ivory Coast star left the Etihad in a cloud of smoke after falling foul of boss Guardiola. During their bitter fall-out, Toure accused Guardiola of being racist because he's African. It's even been reported Toure got a spell placed on City to prevent them winning the Champions League with Guardiola at the helm.

However, Toure has since admitted his perception of Guardiola was wrong in an interview with The Athletic. The former midfielder also revealed he's attempted to patch things up with his ex-boss.

Peter Odemwingie – Sky Sports

Odemwingie drove to QPR to try and push through a move to the club

Former forward Peter Odemwingie was left with egg on his face after darting 125 miles to QPR from West Brom Albion in a move that collapsed. Odemwingie was so confident the transfer deadline day switch in 2021 would be completed, he paid farewell to WBA in an interview with Sky Sports from his car window.

But the Nigerian was in for a shock as the transfer failed to materialise as it was dependent on QPR ace Junior Holliet going the other way. Odemwingie's antics did him no favours when he had to sheepishly return to WBA, only for then boss Steve Clarke to ship him off to Cardiff City the following summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Talk TV

Last but definitely not least is Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo became the latest star to throw his toys out the pram when he slated Man United in a ruthless interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo has been at loggerheads with the Red Devils since the summer, when he declared his desire to leave Old Trafford. He's had a tough time at the club where he made his name, and claims many people at United weren't happy to see him return.

His strop comes just weeks after Ten Hag fined the rebel, and it's likely to be the last time Ronaldo pulls on a United shirt. The 37-year-old's contract ends next summer, but the Red Devils will surely cash in on him for the right price in January.
