The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Hercules actor, Brett Goldstein, addresses potentially fighting Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in a future project after his Thor: Love and Thunder cameo. After the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios is focused on rebuilding the franchise by laying the groundwork for what is to come in its ever-growing universe. That includes continuously developing existing major characters’ arcs, which Taika Waititi’s Love and Thunder has done with the God of Thunder.

Set on the heels of the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Love and Thunder sees the hero going on a personal healing journey until he is roped into a new mission fighting Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Luckily, he gets support from Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), who now wields Mjölnir, and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). While the villain was defeated, the events of the film created a brand new adversary for God of Thunder in Hercules. In the Love and Thunder mid-credits scene, an angry Zeus sends his son to go after the Asgardian prince to exact revenge for trying to kill him, with Hercules played by Ted Lasso star Goldstein in a shock cameo. The scene effectively sets the stage for a Hercules and Thor battle in the MCU.

When asked about potentially fighting Hemsworth’s God of Thunder in the MCU by ET Online, Goldstein had an amusing answer. The actor sarcastically cites how he and Hemsworth are physically similar, suggesting that it would be a fair fight. Unfortunately, Goldstein didn’t give any specific tease about Hercules’ potential match-up with the Avenger, only saying:

“Yeah, I mean, he seems like a small guy. We’re at a similar build. I should be fine.”

Goldstein’s comments about Hemsworth’s physical status are certainly well founded. Most MCU actors go through intense physical preparation before taking on a role, and Hemsworth is no exception. While the actor is a real-life adrenaline junkie and fitness enthusiast, it’s no secret that he intentionally bulked up more for Love and Thunder. The actor chronicled his workouts before and during filming to secure his god-like physique. It’s not difficult to see that Goldstein is clearly joking about having the same build as Hemsworth, but perhaps the actor will attempt to remedy this for a potential Thor and Hercules battle, which could occur in Thor 5 after the Love and Thunder credits scene set up.

Of course, after portraying soccer player Roy Kent in Ted Lasso and Hercules in the MCU, Goldstein is already in top physical shape. However, chances are that he would ramp up his workout sessions leading up to his potential next MCU outing (as many Marvel stars do) especially if it would see him go up against Hemsworth’s Thor. That said, Goldstein doesn’t need to be as bulky as the Australian actor to be effective in his role. Bale’s Gorr was a threat in Thor: Love and Thunder without matching Hemsworth’s size. And given Thor has also gone up against the the much bigger Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, it’s clear that an MCU character’s size isn’t what makes them the fighter they are, so Goldstein’s Hercules could be in with a shot.
