James Gunn helped make Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy household names as they were floating in near-obscurity for decades. Few other characters have become as well-known as they have in such a short amount of time, but Groot is the first with their own spin-off show.

The series was announced by Kevin Feige during Disney’s Investor Day back on December 10, 2020. During Marvel’s Comic-Con animation panel, it debuted the first trailer for the aptly titled I Am Groot, which is coming to Disney+ on August 10. The series will feature 5 original shorts with a spotlight on Groot as a child going on solo adventures. You can check it out below along with a new poster.

Not many details are available so far, but we see baby Groot trying to live his best Flora Colossus life from taking in rich alien lands, to providing an entire micro-society with a leaf he created by a fart. No, I’m not joking.

I Am Groot is the first Guardians spin-off with another offshoot, Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas, to hit Disney+ later this year. This will be one of James Gunn’s final Marvel Studios projects as he already announced his resignation from the MCU after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Update: An earlier version of this story said that there would be 10 original shorts, rather than 5.
