Will Smith’s Wife Jada Is Part Of A Nu Metal Band That Played At Ozzfest
Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett-Smith is part of a nu metal group called Wicked Wisdom that played at Ozzfest in 2005.

Actor Will Smith has been making headlines ever since he slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards at the end of March.

The incident caused many to speculate about his relationship with his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, whom he married in 1997. Fans probably know that Jada runs the successful Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk,” which is currently airing its fifth season.

What fans may not know is that Jada is also part of the Nu mental group Wicked Wisdom, which was formed in 2002. As per The Pit, the band has released two studio albums so far. Their debut came in 2004 with “My Story.” They later followed it up with their self-titled album in 2006.

Ozzy Osbourne’s wife, Sharon, was so impressed by the band that she invited the group to play at Ozzfest in 2005.

Will Smith Reveals His Thoughts On Jada Playing At Ozzfest

In his new memoir, “Will,” released last year, the new Oscar winner talked about his experience watching Jada perform at Ozzfest, as shared by Metal Hammer.

In his memoir, Smith wrote:

“Ozzfest […] featured all the metals. Thrash, industrial, hardcore punk, deathcore, metalcore, post-hardcore, alternative, death, gothic and nu. Sharon [Osbourne] had seen Jada’s band and some part of her understood.  She and Jada became friends, and Sharon put Wicked Wisdom on Ozzfest in summer 2005.”

However, it seems that the “King Richard” actor wasn’t a huge fan of the heavy metal scene. He wrote, “Ozzfest is the least African American event outside of that broom-and-big-a—hockey puck thing they do at the Olympics.”

He then transcribed a conversation that he had with Jada right before they headed “down the black brick road to the land of Ozz.”

“‘Babe, are you sure you don’t wanna do some R and B?’ I asked softly, but I meant it hard. ‘[Metal] is the music I feel,’ Jada responded softly, but she meant it hard. So we packed up our children and headed down the black brick road to the land of Ozz.”

Although the “Independence Day” actor revealed that Wicked Wisdom wasn’t a crowd-pleaser, they did impress Guns N’ Roses enough to be invited to tour with the band.

Wicked Wisdom’s Song ‘Stuck’ Deleted & Reposted By A Fan

Six months ago, a user uploaded a video of “Stuck” to YouTube.

“I’m simply uploading this video because I can’t seem to find it anywhere online,” they wrote in the description. “And it looks like the band’s channel it was originally on has been deleted. And people like myself have been looking for these amazing videos. I found them on an old hard drive.”

It’s not clear why the band decided to release the music video when others are still available on their channel.

“This song slaps,” one user wrote. “This song slaps harder than her husband,” another fan quipped.

“I remember people raving about this band some years back,” another user commented. “A little foggy why the band didn’t continue, but from what little info I got, Pinkett says, it was because of family commitments.”

“I legit found out yesterday that Jada does music and not only music but Heavy Metal??? What???” another asked.

“Tbh she has raw hidden talent. It’s not my kind of music but I think she’s doing her thing,” another commented.

“Someone posted in a comment section that she was a lead singer in a metal band. I didn’t believe it and was surprised to see he wasn’t joking,” another wrote. “I’m also surprised at how good this is. I don’t even like metal like that so I didn’t expect it to be this good.”

“I really wished Jada would have been in a band in her twenties,” another wrote. “She would have been a huge rock star.”

It remains to be seen if Jada will release more music in the future, but it looks like the Oscars slap might have inadvertently created a new fan base for Wicked Wisdom. Their full 2006 self-titled album can be heard below.
