Remember The Ridiculous WWE Feud Where Nikki Bella Wished Her Sister Died In The Womb?
The Wrestle Buddies are diving deep into a 2014 WWE storyline between the Bella Twins.

In the world of professional wrestling, anything can be a feud between two people. Whether it’s over bad blood because of perceived cheating or claiming a brand-new wrestler is actually a wrestler that’s been around for a while that shaved, two or more people can fight over it. And in 2014, WWE got a hold of a story line that should have been an easy home run: sibling rivalry. However, the battle between twins Nikki and Brie Bella fell short with audiences, and the feud ended without it even concluding. Here’s what happened.

During the spring of 2014, Daniel Bryan was involved in a story with Kane and Stephanie McMahon, and because of this, Brie Bella was thrown into the mix–as she is Bryan’s real-life wife–and this resulted in Brie being forced to quit WWE, and Stephanie McMahon punished Nikki by putting her in a series of handicapped matches.

This led to 2014’s Summerslam in August. Brie was fighting Stephanie McMahon and Nikki showed up and turned on her sister. In the following month, Nikki launched plenty of in-ring promos–one of which involved Jerry Springer–and where she explained that Brie was mean and jealous and that’s why Nikki hated her.

On the August 25 episode of Raw, Nikki confronted Brie in the ring with Jerry Lawler as a moderator. Once again, Nikki explained her case that Brie is the “good twin” and Nikki is the “bad twin,” going on to deliver the infamous lines “As far as I’m concerned, I have no sister. I wish you died in the womb!”

All of this culminated at the Hell in a Cell PPV on October 26. The two would battle with the stipulation that the loser would become the personal assistant to the other for 30 days. Nikki won and Brie got the honor of doing Nikki’s bidding, and Brie’s first task was getting a milkshake for her sister, which was promptly dumped on Brie’s head.

On the following episode of Raw, Brie accompanied Nikki to the ring, and reluctantly helped Nikki by distracting her opponent, Naomi. Nikki was put on track for the Divas Championship–held by AJ Lee at that time. Brie was still playing the part of personal assistant, but even two weeks later, Brie seemed more like a heel manager who occasionally rolled her eyes rather than the “CinderBella” character that would eventually get revenge on her evil sister later on, which WWE was trying to set up.

At Survivor Series on November 23, Nikki fought AJ for the Divas Championship, and this was the last day of Brie’s personal assistant position. After the bell rang, Brie distracted AJ, kissed her, and Nikki took advantage and got the win. The match was roughly 30 seconds long. And at the end of the match, Brie was celebrating with Nikki. And that was the end of the feud entirely. The next night, they were both peachy-keen with each other like the past few months hadn’t happened.

According to the Bellas (via Cageside Seats), the match was supposed to be 15 minutes long and the feud was supposed to continue.

“When I had my championship match against AJ at Survivor Series, we were supposed to have like 15 minutes,” explained Nikki. “And CinderBella was ending the next day on Raw. So all of a sudden when AJ and I were in Gorilla they were like ‘How can you do this match in 30 seconds?’ And I was like ‘What?!? 30 seconds? How do I win a championship in 30 seconds?'”

Nikki explained Brie came up with the “kiss of death” angle for the match, just to keep it short. But what Brie was really looking forward to was the aftermath, as John Cena had just dismantled the Authority at Survivor Series. “I was like excited because the next day The Authority got put out of office,” explained Brie. “It was my last day being CinderBella, so I was like ‘Yes! I can beat up Stephanie, I can beat [Nikki] up, I can take that [Divas championship]. And they literally looked at me and go, ‘Oh yeah. We’re just ending it.'”

And that was that. It was never referenced again, even though Nikki told Brie she wish she “died in the womb.” To get a little more insight into what happened during this feud, listen to the latest episode of Wrestle Buddies above. Chris E. Hayner and Mat Elfring go in-depth into the rivalry, including the Growing Up Bella segments, and do a dramatic reading of Nikki’s in-ring promo in a new Wrestlepiece Theater.
