Will Thor: Love & Thunder’s Gorr Kill Taweret? Moon Knight Writer Reacts
Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater reacts to the Egyptian Goddess Taweret possibly appearing and being killed in the MCU sequel Thor: Love & Thunder.

Moon Knight‘s writer reacts to the possibility of Taweret being killed off in Thor: Love & Thunder by Gorr the God Butcher. Moon Knight is Disney+’s latest MCU TV show, and the series’ fourth episode, “The Tomb,” introduced the Egyptian Goddess of Women and Children, Taweret. The character briefly appears at the end of the episode when Marc Spector and Steven Grant find themselves in a psychiatric hospital. The hippopotamus aided those who had passed away through the afterlife and helped the duo escape Duat after Marc refused to leave Steven behind.

Moon Knight introduced several Egyptian Gods, but the upcoming Thor sequel is set to introduce a killer of gods, Gorr. Gorr the God Butcher will be the main villain in Thor: Love & Thunder and will be played by Christian Bale. His motivation for hunting down gods in the MCU is unknown; however, in the comics, Gorr blamed the gods for the deaths of his family members after they didn’t answer his prayers. Very little is known about Gorr at this point, with Thor: Love & Thunder‘s first trailer notably leaving out Bale’s character. While toys and other Thor: Love & Thunder merchandise have given first looks at Gorr the God Butcher, Marvel has yet to release an official image of him.

Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater recently sat down with Comicbook to talk about his MCU series. When asked if any of the Egyptian gods would be appearing in Thor: Love & Thunder, the writer claimed he didn’t know but would like to see Taweret in the movie. However, Slater says he would be devastated if the sequel killed Taweret off, going as far as joking that he would retire. Slater’s full comment can be read below:

Oh, God. I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know. If so, my guess is it’s sort of a background cameo thing, but I really don’t know the answer to that. That be cool if it did. Make me very happy, I’d love to see Taweret it in there somewhere, as long as she’s not someone who’s getting butchered by Gorr. If they kill Taweret, I’m done. I am officially retired. I will not recover from that personally. A hippo means more to me than most of the people I know in real life. Yes.”

Moon Knight was very much a self-contained story, limiting the number of MCU references and easter eggs. However, since the series has ended, Slater has been revealing a lot of cut plans for Moon Knight, including references to some big MCU characters. A reference to Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror was originally written into the script and Slater also previously explained that they considered bringing Kit Harrington back as his Eternals character Dane Whitman. Moon Knight also originally planned to hint at Gorr the God Butcher by having characters reference rumors of gods dying, but it was ultimately cut because the writers didn’t feel they could find a natural way to slip in the tease.

Even though Moon Knight season 1 ended with a cliffhanger, revealing Khonsu had teamed with Marc’s third identity, Jake Lockley, it’s unknown when the hero will return. Moon Knight season 2 has not been confirmed, but given the popularity of the series, it seems likely Marc Spector, Taweret, and the other characters in the show will return. Thor: Love & Thunder may be too packed to give Moon Knight a sizeable role, yet there’s no reason why Gorr couldn’t at least reference Egyptian gods. Even though many would be just as disappointed as Slater to see Taweret die in Thor: Love & Thunder, it would be a great way to show how ruthless Gorr the God Butcher is.
