Everything We Know About The Equalizer 3
Denzel Washington's Robert McCall will be back for at least one more big-screen movie. Here's everything currently known about The Equalizer 3.

Everything We Know About The Equalizer 3

Robert McCall will put his deadly set of skills to use at least one more time when he returns for The Equalizer 3. Loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Edward Woodward, The Equalizer movies have served as successful action vehicles for Denzel Washington. The actor, who has long been one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, is set to turn the Equalizer franchise into a full trilogy in the very near future.

Released during an era where movies about retired assassins and stories centered around vigilante justice have found an increased level of popularity, 2014’s The Equalizer was a big box office hit and a record-breaking R-rated film that led to a 2018 sequel. Though both director Antoine Fuqua and Washington appeared to be on board with a potential third installment when the second movie released, a lack of announcements cast some doubts on the studio’s confidence in the franchise’s future. However, official confirmation that The Equalizer 3 is in development finally came in January 2022, thus putting these concerns to rest.

Based on what the previous two movies have offered, the latest collaborative effort between Fuqua and Washington promises another heavy death toll and another criminal plot for McCall to unravel. And once again, he’s sure to be doing what he can to help someone in need. As for exactly what that would be and what else to expect from the movie, here’s everything that’s been revealed so far about Washington’s third Equalizer film.

The Equalizer 3 Cast

At this juncture, The Equalizer has only one other confirmed cast member. In addition to Denzel Washington, the movie will star Dakota Fanning as an undisclosed character. As a child, Fanning famously co-starred with Washington in Man on Fire 18 years ago. For now, it’s unclear if there are any plans to bring back any returning characters for The Equalizer 3’s cast. If the story for The Equalizer 2 is any indication, the third movie should feature a new supporting cast for McCall’s next outing. The only two characters who returned from the 2014 film were Brian (Bill Pullman) and Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo), but the latter died in the sequel. Pullman, on the other hand, could theoretically return for the next movie.

The Equalizer 3 Story Details: What’s It About?

The story for The Equalizer 3 has been kept under wraps, with the only clue being that it’ll take McCall on an international adventure. Fuqua said before the film was greenlit that his goal for The Equalizer 3 would be for it to take Denzel Washington’s character to Europe. That makes sense, considering that the movie is set to film in Italy. His reasons for heading there and who he’ll be up against, though, remain to be seen for the time being.

The Equalizer 3 Release Date

According to Washington, The Equalizer 3 will film sometime in 2022. Later, Sony Pictures confirmed that The Equalizer 3 would receive its theatrical release on September 1, 2023. Since that’s the case, it won’t be too long before Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall is back on the big screen, once again taking out gangsters and doing his part to keep people safe.
