Gaiman Has Snarky Response To Good Omens Season 2 Release Date Demands

Neil Gaiman responds to calls for Good Omens season 2’s release date, jokingly threatening not to release the show at all if questions persist. The Prime Video series is based on Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name revolving around an angel and a demon who have become acquaintances during their long stay on Earth and have grown to love life on the planet. When the two learn that the Antichrist is about to be born and bring with it Armageddon, thus destroying the Earth, they set off in the hopes of putting a stop to it.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant lead the cast of Good Omens as angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley alongside Adria Arjona, Miranda Richardson, Michael McKean, Jack Whitehall, Jon Hamm and Frances McDormand as the narrator and voice of God. First premiering in 2019, the series received generally positive reviews for its mix of faithful adaptation and original storytelling, world-building, comedy and Sheen and Tennant’s performances. Though initially developed by Gaiman as a miniseries, Good Omens would earn a season 2 renewal with Sheen and Tennant returning to star and Gaiman returning to co-showrun alongside director/executive producer Douglas Mackinnon.

With over two years gone since the show first premiered, one fan took to Twitter to list all the things that have occurred since Good Omens debuted and asked Neil Gaiman for the season 2 release date. The creator rejected the request and jokingly threatened not to release the show if the calls for a release date continued. See Gaiman’s funny response below:

Gaiman is well-known for his humorous interactions with fans on social media, ranging from bluntly debunking reports of Coraline 2 and Netflix canceling The Sandman before its premiere to calling out conservative groups helping Lucifer become Netflix’s most-streamed 2021 show. Given Good Omens first premiered on Prime Video in 2019, it’s understandable some fans have been clamoring for the next chapter in Gaiman’s series. However, as Gaiman notes in a follow-up post to the above thread, filming on Good Omens season 2 only finally wrapped in March after kicking off in October 2021, with Amazon and the BBC’s renewal order not even coming until a full two years after the show premiered.

Despite the long delay, Gaiman has been teasing major plans for Good Omens season 2, citing its finale as his favorite episode of the season and teasing plans for a potential season 3. Additionally, with production on Good Omens season 2 having taken nearly six months to complete, it seems the creative team behind the show are crafting a large-scale new chapter that could be worth the wait. In the meantime, audiences can catch up with Good Omens season 1 available to stream on Prime Video now.
