Netflix: The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (May 13)

This weekend, Netflix is bringing a war drama movie, a documentary, a comedy movie, and a legal drama TV series. Although streaming platforms continue to be a go-to source of entertainment for many around the world, Netflix is currently going through some controversy after a massive loss of subscribers and possible changes in its subscription plans, which have raised questions about the reason for all these problems. However, the streaming giant continues adding new licensed and original content every week for all ages and tastes, so its subscribers always have something to watch.

Last weekend, Netflix welcomed the Peruvian rom-com Let’s Tie The Knot, Honey!, the horror movie A Drop of Blood, and the documentary Like a Rolling Stone: The Life & Times of Ben Fong-Torres, along with the Swedish miniseries Clark, the TV series The Pentaverate, the drama movie Along for the Ride, and the Spanish TV series Welcome to Eden. This weekend, Netflix won’t add much licensed content, with season 5 of Outlander, the Nollywood documentary Bigger than Africa, season 4 of PJ Masks, and the thriller Borrego, starring Lucy Hale.

All eyes will be on this weekend’s original content, with a British war drama based on a true story, an unsettling documentary, a comedy movie starring Rebel Wilson, and a legal drama TV series based on a series of novels. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend – May 13.

Operation Mincemeat

Operation Mincemeat is a British war drama directed by John Madden and based on the book of the same name by Ben Macintyre. In 1943, the Allies are determined to break Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe and plan an all-out assault on Sicily, but they face an impossible challenge: how to protect a massive invasion force from a potential massacre. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers – Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) – to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war, centered on the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man. Operation Mincemeat is the true story of an idea that hoped to alter the course of the war, defying logic, risking countless thousands of lives, and testing the nerves of its creators to breaking point.

Our Father

The newest addition to Netflix’s extensive catalogue of documentaries is Our Father. Jacoba Ballard was an only child conceived via donor sperm, and she always dreamed of having a brother or sister. One day, an at-home DNA test led her to the discovery of not one but seven half-siblings, a number that defied best practices in fertility medicine. As they all set out to learn more about their curious family tree, they soon discovered the sickening truth: their parents’ fertility doctor had been inseminating his patients with his own sperm without their knowledge or consent. As Ballard and her newfound siblings realized they’ve barely begun to untangle his dark web of deceit, their pursuit of justice lies at the heart of this unsettling story about an unimaginable breach of trust.

Senior Year

Senior Year is a comedy movie directed by Alex Hardcastle and starring Rebel Wilson. In 2002, high-school cheerleader Stephanie Conway (Wilson) suffered a head injury and fell into a coma before her senior prom. Now, 20 years later, she wakes up to discover that she is now a 37-year-old woman. Upset about not being able to finish high school, she decides to re-enroll with the reluctant support of her parents. Also starring in Senior Year are Justin Hartley, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Alicia Silverstone, and Chris Parnell.

The Lincoln Lawyer

The Lincoln Lawyer is a legal drama TV series based on the bestselling novels by Michael Connelly. It follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist who runs his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln, as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles. The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer is based on the second book in the series, The Brass Verdict, and it also stars Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, and Angus Sampson.
