Inglorious Beefs: 8 Legendary Directors That Quentin Tarantino Has Dissed

The only thing Quentin Tarantino loves more than movies is talking about movies. Ever since he burst onto the scene with “Reservoir Dogs,” the filmmaker has been unafraid to pontificate about his vast knowledge of cinema. Sometimes he dazzles with his encyclopedic knowledge of obscure movies, and other times he offers controversial opinions about mainstream pop culture (for example, he prefers “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” to “The Last Crusade”).

So when Tarantino took shots at Francois Truffaut in an upcoming episode of his Video Archives Podcast, the sentiment may have been surprising but his willingness to share it certainly wasn’t. While Tarantino loves to heap praise on his favorite directors (like Brian de Palma, Howard Hawks, and Steven Spielberg, to name a few), he’s just as happy to criticize his fellow titans of the film industry. Sometimes the comments are made in good fun and other times he clearly has serious grievances with them, but Tarantino never holds back his negative feelings. Talk to him long enough, and he’s bound to say something uncharitable about one of your cinematic heroes. Keep reading for a roundup of some of the biggest directors that Tarantino has publicly taken issue with.
