19 Questions “House Of The Dragons” Needs To Answer After Episode 2

Spoilers ahead for “House Of The Dragon” Episode 2 — you’ve been warned!

Hello, hello! If you’re anything like me, you’ve become completely invested in House Of The Dragon — even though you were so sure that you weren’t going to get sucked into the Game Of Thrones hype again.

HBO / Binge

After watching the premiere last week, I was left with a lot of burning questions — and Episode 2 was no different. So, here are just some of the things I’ll be thinking about until the next episode.

HBO / Binge

P.S. I have not read Fire & Blood — aka the book on which House Of The Dragon is based on. I will one day, but for now, I’m enjoying learning about the mysteries of House Targaryen episode by episode.

1. First of all, since when do crabs feast on human flesh?

HBO / Binge

According to a quick Google, crabs are omnivores, so hypothetically they wouldn’t be too picky about nibbling on humans — but it just seems so…gruesome.

2. On that note, who exactly is the Crabfeeder and what’s his connection to the Targaryen storyline?

HBO / Binge

All we’ve heard about him so far is that he’s a Myrish prince from the Free Cities who’s been clearing the Stepstones of pirates and outlaws.

3. Who are the dragon riders that Rhaenyra refers to during the small council meeting?

HBO / Binge

In response to the ongoing crisis at the Stepstones, Rhaenyra suggests sending the dragon riders — but she says “send us”, implying that there’s a group of them. Who exactly are they? And will this explain where all the other dragons are (as well as who is bonded to them) in later episodes?

4. Why is Rhaenys, aka the “Queen Who Never Was”, keeping such a close eye on Rhaenyra?

HBO / Binge

We see Princess Rhaenys look on as Rhaenyra chooses a new knight to add to the kingsguard, as well as question Rhaenyra’s thoughts about her father remarrying. What does she have to gain by doing this? Is she simply keeping tabs or trying to steer things in a way so that Rhaenyra learns from her mistakes as the “Queen Who Never Was” and remains on the Iron Throne?

5. Doesn’t it make sense to choose Ser Criston Cole, who is the only one with combat experience? And if so, why is everyone else so against it?

HBO / Binge

I understand the whole showing loyalty to powerful allies sort of thing, but if this person was protecting me I would personally want them to be the most trained and combat-ready.

6. How long does it take to light all of those candles in the Sept?

HBO / Binge

Okay, not an important question, but there are just SO MANY. I’m imagining one of the dragons coming in every morning to elegantly light them with some dragonfire.

7. How does Alicent feel about the situation she’s been placed into with the king?

HBO / Binge

Obviously, there would be some genuine feelings for the king given that he is the father of her closest friend. But romantically, how does she feel? At first, I thought she would be following Otto’s orders for fear of retaliation, but then Alicent goes the extra mile during her conversations with Viserys (e.g. having the stone dragon mended). Could she not just…sabotage herself if she had no interest in marrying the king? But then again, maybe she’s just doing her best because that’s what her father asked.

8. Especially since during the scenes in the Sept, I was definitely still getting more-than-friends vibes between Rhaenyra and Alicent.

HBO / Binge

9. As we see later in the episode though, Viserys announces his decision to marry Alicent. With that in mind, I wonder what Rhaenyra and Alicent’s relationship will transform into during the time skip — friendly or domineering?

HBO / Binge

Ooooh, I’m getting excited.

10. Is the king’s rotting body another sign of the Iron Throne rejecting him as his rule grows weaker?

HBO / Binge

First, it was the cuts that wouldn’t heal and now it looks like things are getting worse.

11. Is Laena Velaryon asking about Vhagar foreshadowing her becoming the dragon’s rider?

HBO / Binge

This conversation feels too important to cast off as some random dialogue between two characters. Plus, Laena’s father, Lord Corlys, is the master of ships AND she mentioned that the last known location of Vhagar is along the coast of the narrow sea (which would only be accessible with a ship). If that’s the case, I also wonder if we’ll get scenes of Laena meeting Vhagar for the first time.

12. How far away is Dragonstone from King’s Landing?

HBO / Binge

I ask because they made it seem like Dragonstone was just a jolly little stroll away from King’s Landing. Either that or they somehow teleported there instantly, which if memory serves me right, was a plot issue with Game Of Thrones.

I get that scenes involving the amount of travel it takes to get from one place to another would be cut in the interest of production costs and episode run-time, but I’m just wondering how they got to Dragonstone so quickly.

13. Like, did they take some dragons there or what?

HBO / Binge

14. Also did they really charge all the way to Dragonstone to meet with Daemon, who has a dragon that could kill them in a second, without any of their own backup?

HBO / Binge

Lucky Rhaenyra appeared, otherwise I’m sure Otto “I can handle it myself” Hightower would have been a huge pile of ashes.

15. Did anyone else’s mind flashback to Bridgerton and the whole “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires” when Rhaenyra said “I’m right here, uncle..,the object of your ire” to Daemon?

HBO / Binge

I mean, it’s House Of The Dragon, so an incestuous relationship between these two wouldn’t be the wildest thing to happen.

16. What’s the deal with this portable oven contraption?

HBO / Binge

Okay, clearly it’ll keep the dragon egg safe during transporting, but that thing looks HOT — do dragon eggs need to be kept warm if they’re not trying to be hatched?

17. Also, how long do dragon eggs take to hatch?

HBO / Binge

18. It looks like Daemon and Lord Corlys are going to team up, but who’s going to be their first target? Will it be the Crabfeeder and then the king?

HBO / Binge

I bet Daemon is going to backstab Lord Corlys at some point too.

19. And lastly, just who exactly will the main villain be in House Of The Dragon?

HBO / Binge

Daemon hasn’t done anything to earn villain status yet, but that could change in future episodes. Unless there’s going to be someone else who turns everything upside down.
