Usher Won’t Ever Do A Verzuz Battle For THIS Reason: ‘A Different Animal’

Usher has some bad news for his fans!

Since the debut of Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’s webcast series, Verzuz, the R&B icon’s fandom has begged the entertainer to battle a fellow artist. Unfortunately, the 43-year-old broke hearts with his recent opinions about the show and explained why he would never compete with some of his genre’s biggest acts.

During an appearance on the PEOPLE Every Day podcast, the “Good Kisser” singer opened up about why fans would never see him in a Verzuz Battle. The Dallas native originally guest starred on the show to discuss his Las Vegas residency. But, the “Same Girl” artist could not help but address his disinterest in the Verzuz series.

Usher, a man who wastes no time in lauding himself with the praise he rightfully deserves, told host Janine Rubenstein that the webcast series could not handle what he has to offer. “I think if you ever came to my show, you would understand that I don’t even think a Verzuz could handle all of the songs that I have to be honest,” the 43-year-old said.

The eight-time Grammy winner noted that he could do the work alone, but Verzuz did not follow a “me versus me” theme. Nonetheless, the singer appreciated the show’s concept. The “Hands Of Stone” actor noted that it was terrific Verzuz celebrated music. However, the Dallas native believed genuine appreciation came from understanding the artist’s legacy.

Because the show featured two musicians going head to head against each other’s hit songs, Usher declared that there could be no comparison with his music’s greatness. “I’m a different animal, man,” the TV personality bragged. “I’m cut from a way different cloth, man. And when you put those songs on, I’m telling you, I don’t think anybody in the world would want smoke with them songs.”

The Verzuz series, which Timbaland and Swizz Beatz created during the pandemic as a virtual DJ battle, has grown to become a sensation amongst artists. There have been two wholesome seasons of the show, with a total of 43 episodes. Some of the biggest names in the industry have gone toe to toe, including Alicia Keys and John Legend, Bow Wow and Soulja Boy, alongside other A-listers.

While Usher has no plans on joining the list, the “In The MIX” actor was having a wonderful time in the famous Sin City. Earlier this week, the entertainer announced he would be extending his Las Vegas residency at Park MGM. The “There Goes My Baby” artist added 25 new dates, from March 3, 2023, to July 15, 2023. When asked why he chose to extend his residency, the 43-year-old said:

“Having an audience come to you is always great. I love the fact that I’ve been able to really celebrate all of the years of my music and see a very mixed, eclectic crowd of people.”

In addition, Usher confessed that the real reason he decided to add more dates was that living and performing in Vegas suited his lifestyle. As for his disinterest in doing a Verzuz Battle, the “Hey Daddy” artist was not alone. As previously shared by The Blast, Mariah Carey echoed similar thoughts about battling Beyoncé.

The Queen of Christmas admitted that she adored and respected the powerhouse vocalist. But, her love for the 40-year-old was not enough to make her battle the “Drunk In Love” singer. According to Carey, it would be disrespectful to herself if she engaged Beyoncé in a Verzuz Battle. Instead, the 53-year-old prioritized making holiday hits over going head-to-head with Queen Bey.

The ‘Confessions’ Singer Declared Himself The King Of R&B

Usher has earned several titles with his stellar accomplishments, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that PageSix reported that the Dallas native believed he deserved to be dubbed the King of R&B. The BET Award winner claimed this title during an appearance on SiriusXM and Radio Andy’s collaborative podcast, “Bevelations.” According to the “Superstar” singer, the honor was long overdue.

The 43-year-old explained that throughout his successful career, he has worked hard and reached a point where he did not need to ask for accolades. Instead, the entertainer noted that he should be named the King of R&B.
