Elizabeth Olsen Passes Fantastic 4 John Krasinski Lie Detector Question

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Elizabeth Olsen passes the lie detector test after claiming that she has never met John Krasinski despite working together in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Playing Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch in the MCU, the actress recently appeared in the Sam Raimi-directed sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also features Krasinski as Mister Fantastic.

Building on MCU’s multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sends the sorcerer on an adventure across multiple universes. He eventually finds himself in Earth-838, where there’s an existing Illuminati team. Assembled by Supreme Strange, the team is slightly different from its Marvel Comics counterpart. It’s composed of Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Maria Rambeau’s (Lashana Lynch) Captain Marvel with Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), and Krasinski’s Reed Richards. The last one delivers on one of the most-clamored castings in MCU Phase 4.

Hilariously, however, when Olsen was asked if she agrees that Krasinski is “the smartest man alive” — a reference to Mister Fantastic’s tag in the Marvel universe, not only did she say no, but she also claimed to not know the actor. The Vanity Fair interviewer tried reminding her that she and Krasinski co-starred in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but Olsen was adamant that she didn’t know him. The lie detector ruled that she was telling the truth. Watch the clip via @itsjusttanx below:

Fans have been eagerly anticipating what Kevin Feige and his team’s plan is for Marvel’s first family now that their character rights are back with Marvel Studios. It has been confirmed they’re going to be rebooted via a new film, but no casting information has been announced. That being said, Krasinski has always been the fan-favorite pick to play Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, with his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, potentially co-starring as Sue Storm. Somehow, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness delivers on this idea with the involvement of Krasinki’s Mister Fantastic in Earth-838’s Illuminati. Unfortunately, before they could even make a mark in the budding MCU multiverse, Wanda Maximoff easily killed them all. The question now is whether or not Krasinski will be back to play the role again in the main MCU timeline.

Olsen passing the lie detector test was impressive. While some might argue that her commitment to her original answer seemed unnecessary, considering that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been out in theaters for a week now, it’s worth noting that this interview may have been filmed before its premiere. Olsen also previously revealed she never actually met Krasinski or Stewart while filming the sequel, so despite them appearing together on screen, the actor still could have been telling the truth. Regardless, given Marvel Studios’ stance on spoilers, it makes sense that she wouldn’t give away anything while promoting the blockbuster.
