THIS 1999 Stephen King Miniseries Is Now Available To Stream

Horror master Stephen King may have penned some truly frightening tales over the years, but one of his best works is widely considered to be “Storm of the Century.”

The plot of the story is simple: a small town in Maine is preparing for a snowstorm when a stranger comes to town.

The miniseries might be so critically acclaimed because the “Carrie” author actually wrote the original screenplay with the intention of making a “novel for television.”

Fortunately, “Storm of the Century” can now be considered a “novel for streaming.”

Directed by Craig R. Baxley, the three-episode miniseries is now available to stream stars a little known cast that delivers some powerhouse performances: Tim Daly, Colm Feore, Debrah Farentino, Casey Siemaszko, and Jeffrey DeMunn.

The series was released on February 14, 15, and 18 in 1999 on ABC and holds a critic approval rating of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critic consensus reads: “Chilling performances and an even darker moral dilemma shelter Storm of the Century’s somewhat long-winded tale from ever being anything less than watchable.”

“STORM OF THE CENTURY, my favorite of the miniseries I’ve written, is now available on Hulu, UNCUT and UNRATED,” he tweeted.

Many fans commented on the tweet to say that “Storm of the Century” is easily one of their favorite works of all times, with one fan calling it a “masterpiece.” However, another horror master, Mike Flanagan, who actually directed Stephen King’s novel “Doctor Sleep,” revealed that “Storm of the Century” actually had a direct impact on his own critically acclaimed Netflix horror series, “Midnight Mass.”

The town meeting sequence at the end is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever seen. I thought about it a lot working on MIDNIGHT MASS (where the sheriff also has an office in the general store)…

“The town meeting sequence at the end is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever seen,” he said, referring to a scene in King’s work. Flanagan then explained, “I thought about it a lot working on MIDNIGHT MASS (where the sheriff also has an office in the general store)…”
