Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Threatens To Boycott Adidas Following Brand’s Issues With Kanye West

Rapper and business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs recently joined celebrities supporting Kanye West in his feud against Adidas and Gap. Ye initially launched Yeezy, his fashion brand, far back in 2015 in collaboration with Adidas.

Over the past few months, the “Flashing Lights” artist has publicly spoken about his issues with the brand, one of which was authorizing “Yeezy day” despite not giving his approval. He also accused the sportswear brand of bringing back some of his older styles without his consent.

Ye’s most recent feud with Adidas is linked to one of the brand’s latest footwear designs. The 45-year-old claimed that the design was stolen after he was left out of meetings with Adidas and Gap. Combs recently lent his platform to the cause and promised to boycott the brand entirely if the issue was not resolved.

Combs just joined his longtime friend, Ye, in accusing Adidas of copying the artist’s designs. The record executive took to Instagram to slam the sportswear brand and promised he would not patronize them until “they make this right.”

Combs posted a picture that had a pair of Adidas shoes that resembled Ye’s Yeezy footwear with a large red “X” drawn across it. The “Coming Home” artist captioned the post with, “Since the era of Run-DMC, @Adidas has always used Hip Hop to build its brand and make billions off of our culture.”

The 52-year-old continued, “BUT WE ARE MORE THAN JUST CONSUMERS NOW, WE’RE THE OWNERS. @KanyeWest and YEEZY are the reason Adidas is relevant to culture. WE KNOW OUR VALUE! I’m done wearing Adidas products until they make this right!! We have to support each other!! Everybody repost this, please!!”

Ye started berating Adidas and Gap for allegedly copying his designs on social media a while ago. He claimed that after making plans to carry his Yeezy line, the two corporations purposely left him out of meetings and ripped him off by stealing his designs.

The “Praise God” artist posted a screenshot of his conversation with Combs on Tuesday, showing the fellow artist supporting him and asking for something he could post in support of Ye. He also posted photos of the footwear in question with an X marked over it. The post was captioned, “This the energy this the love.”

In the screenshot of the private messages, Combs wrote, “please can [you] send me something I could post in support of you! I [will] never wear Adidas again for the rest of my life if they don’t make you right!!!!” Ye, on his part, responded with, “Please God. Love you.”

Combs was not the only celebrity backing Ye; Kasseem Dauod Dean, famously known as Swizz Beatz, took to Instagram and called out Adidas in solidarity with the 45-year-old. In the post, he revealed that while he liked to keep to himself, Adidas was “dead wrong” in their move.

He posted the same picture of the shoes with the X marked over it with the caption, “I usually mind my business, but this is DEAD WRONG! If we let them do this to @kanyewest, it will happen to us also! This man created this groundbreaking innovation, and it should be respected as a creative!”

The record producer added, “YE is only asking for his work to be respected and not stolen that’s not crazy to me !! We not buying these!!!!!!!!!!!! @adidas, you’re supposed to be original do the correct thing, please!!!” Ye responded to the write-up by posting the screenshot captioned “That’s love.”

Kanye West Called Out Adidas’ Creative Director

MEGA

Still on his social media campaign against Adidas, on Tuesday, Ye posted a picture of Alasdhair Willis, the sportswear brand’s creative director, asking him why he allegedly stood by and let Adidas proceed with the design. Willis is married to Stella McCartney, Beetles icon, Paul McCartney’s daughter.

As per Newsweek, Ye captioned the post with, “To the creative director of adidas Alasdhair Willis I’ve done songs with your father-in-law [.] How can you watch adidas do what they’ve done to a fellow creative and not say anything and never even meet with me or call me? Why did I have to do this in public?”

Not long after the post, the “Donda” artist retracted his statement and asked that fans not post any memes of Willis. Ye claimed that the creative director was a “good guy” and that he was certain Willis would “call [him] and actually help.”

The rest of the caption read, “Let’s see if we can speak to him first[.] Me and Paul McCartney have made a lot of great music. I’m cool with the family.”
