The Rookie: Feds Spinoff Starring Niecy Nash-Betts Confirmed by ABC

ABC confirms The Rookie spinoff Feds in its lineup of new shows for the 2022-2023 broadcasting season. The Rookie is a police procedural following the oldest rookie in the LA Police Department and is currently airing its fourth season. The spinoff series The Rookie: Feds was co-created by The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter. Both serve as executive producers alongside Mark Gordon, series star Niecy Nash-Betts, The Rookie star Nathan Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross, and Corey Miller. ABC ordered a backdoor pilot for The Rookie: Feds earlier this year.

Variety reports that ABC has confirmed that The Rookie spinoff series Feds starring Nash-Betts will be joining the network’s fall season lineup.  This series order comes only two weeks after Simone was introduced in the two-part backdoor pilot that aired during The Rookie season 4. The new series will broadcast in the 2022-2023 season alongside the new drama Alaska starring Hilary Swank and the Gina Rodriguez-led comedy Not Dead Yet.

The Rookie: Feds will star Niecy Nash-Betts (Reno 911!) as Simone Clark, a former guidance counselor who becomes the oldest rookie in the FBI academy. Nash-Betts’ character was introduced in a two-part backdoor pilot during The Rookie season 4 when Simone helps John Nolan (Fillion) track a suspected terrorist. The Rookie: Feds also stars Frankie Faison (The Wire) as Christopher “Cutty” Clark and Felix Solis (Ozark) as Special Agent Matthew Garza. Now that ABC confirmed  The Rookie: FedsThe Rookie franchise will now be open for possible crossover in future seasons.
