Fans are loving Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak’s reunion at the 2022 Emmy Awards.
The two Office stars and longtime friends made a few jokes about their “insanely complicated” relationship while presenting the trophy for a limited or anthology series or movie at the annual awards show on Monday night (September 12).

“To all the nominees, we just want to say congratulations, you lazy sons of bitches,” Mindy said. “How are you getting away with this?”
“Eight episodes?” B.J. added, at which point Mindy continued, “We came out doing network sitcoms, 22 episodes a year.”
“And that show, that would take up your whole life. No time for other projects,” B.J. said. Mindy joked while looking at him, “No time for a social life. You had no choice but to form insanely complicated relationships with your costars.”
“And now, you can just write some self-contained masterpiece, cast it with movie stars … ” B.J. noted, as Mindy quipped about the White Lotus’ idyllic setting: “Shoot it for a few weeks and then go back to your fancy luxury compound.”
Mindy and B.J. met on The Office and began dating during their time on the show. The split for good in 2007 but have stayed close, with Mindy saying in a 2019 interview on CBS Sunday Morning that she considered him a “part of [her] family.”
More recently, she addressed speculation that B.J. is the father of her two children.
