The horror movie Barbarian is giving movie-goers a scare during the Labor Day lull and earned $10 million in its opening weekend. It stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard, and Justin Long, directed by Zach Cregger. Cregger, who started on the sketch comedy group The Whitest Kids U Know, co-directed the comedy Miss March, which also starred WKUK Trevor Moore. Barbarian is the second solo directorial feature that he also wrote himself.

Barbarian had its premiere at this year’s Comic-Con and was theatrically released on September 9 by 20th Century Studios, but Cregger isn’t resting on the film’s surprising laurels just yet. He’s already at work on his next project. The writer/director spoke with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew podcast and told them he’ll be making back-to-back horror movies.

“I’m writing a horror [movie] right now,” Cregger said. “It’s way more ambitious than Barbarian. It’s way weirder… and I don’t know if I’m gonna pull it off.”

Cregger explained that it’s a difficult script so far, but he’s figuring things out and where the story is going to go. “I’m like 65 pages in. I know how it ends, I just can’t get the beginning to link up to the ending. So I don’t know if I’m gonna pull it off or not.”

Even more interesting, Cregger also told the podcast that he’s working on a script that’s set in the DC Universe. He describes the project as being a “Batman-adjacent thing.”

“I wrote it and I’m utterly obsessed with it. So one day, I want to make that.”
