Lincoln Lawyer Season 2: Everything We Know

Warning: Contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer season 1.

With The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 released on Netflix in full, here’s everything that’s known about The Lincoln Lawyer season 2. Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 adapts The Brass Verdict, Michael Connelly’s second Mickey Haller novel from 2007. There are several more books, so there’s plenty more material to draw on without worrying about the connection between The Lincoln Lawyer and Bosch.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 drew its primary plot from The Brass Verdict as it explored Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) return to law after a lengthy absence and an addiction to prescription painkillers. However, outside of the Elliot case, Mickey Haller also dealt with several plots from The Lincoln Lawyer, Michael Connelly’s first Mickey Haller book from 2005, which was adapted into a film of the same name with Matthew McConaughey in 2011. This includes the stories of Harold “Hard Case” Casey and, crucially, Jesus Menendez, an innocent man serving a life sentence for a murder charge.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 ends on a cliffhanger. While the main case has been sorted out via a “brass verdict,” there are unanswered questions surrounding several characters and a man thought to be a murderer is watching Mickey Haller. Here’s all there is to know about Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.

Has The Lincoln Lawyer Been Renewed For Season 2 – Updates

Currently, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 has not been officially confirmed. It’s clear that writer David E. Kelley has plans to continue the stories of the characters in another season, and the other TV series adaptation of Michael Connelly’s work, Bosch, ran for 7 seasons before ending and returning as Bosch: Legacy. If Netflix finds that The Lincoln Lawyer is successful, there is clearly plenty of room for season 2.

How The Lincoln Lawyer Sets Up Season 2

When Mickey Haller manages to prove Jesus Menendez’s innocence, it leaves a big question: who killed Martha Renteria? This question is a huge part of the first book. In The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 ending, the man with the tattoo who presumably killed Martha Renteria is watching Mickey Haller, which fits with that character’s narrative in the book and suggests that Netflix plans to adapt that plot for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2. The next season will also need to explore the stories around Lorna Taylor (Becki Newton) going to law school, and Cisco’s (Angus Sampson) paying his debt to the Road Saints.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Cast: Possible New & Returning Characters

After The Lincoln Lawyer’s season 1 ending, most of the cast are likely to return with the notable exception of Trevor Elliot (Christopher Gorham). While they might appear to be minor characters, Sam Scales and Gloria Dayton are likely to return, not just as cameo appearances, but as larger figures. Other characters from the book of The Lincoln Lawyer that are related to the Martha Renteria case, including Louis Ross Roulet who hires Mickey Haller, Elizabeth Windsor, his mother, and Cecil C. Dobbs, their business attorney.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Predicted Release Date

If The Lincoln Lawyer is renewed for season 2, then production would probably not take a huge amount of time. The team clearly already have ideas laid out for a second season, so if it is renewed soon, Netflix could easily abide by a traditional one-season-a-year model and The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 release date could be as soon as May 2023. This, of course, all assumes that Netflix are able to sort out their issues with losing subscribers and that the pandemic does not cause too many delays around filming.
