WARNING: Contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

A new fan poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness highlights one of the most bizarre moments from Sam Raimi’s new film, namely Strange’s musical fight scene with his alternate universe self. Currently showing in theaters, Multiverse of Madness is the 28th film in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe and a direct sequel to 2016’s original Doctor Strange, which was directed by Scott Derrickson. Joining Benedict Cumberbatch in his return to the titular role of Doctor Strange is Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, and newcomer Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

Throughout the film, Cumberbatch’s sorcerer finds himself unexpectedly thrust into several alternate universes as he seeks to protect Gomez’s young interdimensional traveler. During his adventures, Strange learns of the fate that befalls several of his alternate universe counterparts, including those versions of himself that sought to master the powers held within the mystical book known as the Darkhold. In one such reality, he encounters a darker version of himself in a devastated universe that had seen other realities collapse in upon themselves. When the two versions of Doctor Strange come to blows, the pair hastily make use of musical notes generated by the instruments surrounding them as weapons.

It certainly made for one of the most memorable sequences from the film, and now digital artist elilusionista.cl has shared a new fan poster on Instagram that showcases the magically conjured notes. The poster features a levitating Doctor Strange surrounded by sheet music and the musical notes used as weapons by both versions of Strange during the fight. Check out the picture below:

Viewers familiar with the director’s work will recognize the bizarre fight as a sequence that is quintessentially part of Raimi’s distinctive fingerprint on the finished product. Rather than regurgitating the sort of mystical weapons already seen throughout the original film and Strange’s subsequent MCU crossovers, Raimi sought to inject something new and unexpected into the mix. The result is a fight scene that is not only unusual but also contains a sense of fun reminiscent of Raimi’s work on other films such as The Evil Dead series.

Of course, this one sequence is not the only unique element in a film that befits a titular character whose name is Doctor Strange. Filled near to bursting with action, humor, and Raimi’s trademark horror sensibilities, In the Multiverse of Madness offers fans a very different movie experience than that provided by the original 2016 film. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness currently available in theaters, audiences can experience all the musical madness for themselves.
