From Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy to Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, the superhero genre has its fair share of iconic couples. Most of the time, those love stories only exist on screen, but sometimes, Marvel and DC movies have other love stories going on behind the scenes.

1. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively played love interests Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris in Green Lantern.

Blake and Penn broke up in September, and Ryan and Scarlett filed for porce in December.
Blake and Ryan didn’t officially start dating until late 2011, several months after Green Lantern‘s release. They got married in 2012.

And then, the next day, Simu [Liu] took us to Disneyland and the next, next day, Awkwafina booked a whole venue for us to celebrate. We had a big karaoke party, and everyone was there; everyone sang. The next day, we all lost our voices. It’s really an amazing memory. We were really like a big family.”
For the Shang-Chi premiere, Yung carried a Xialing action figure in his pocket. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I gotta keep her close to my heart.”

11. Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer played love interests Bruce Wayne/Batman and Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Batman Returns.

The role went to Kim Basinger instead.

Michelle finally got to suit up in the sequel. She replaced Annette Bening, who dropped out because she was pregnant. This time around, Michael was supportive of her on set.

12. Though Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dated during the first Spider-Man, they broke up before filming the rest of the trilogy.

Marisa gave Robert partial credit for spearheading the reinvention of Aunt May for the MCU, telling the Wrap, “I think Robert Downey had a lot to do with it. And then [Jon] Watts [the director] and I [talked] a lot about, well, I guess the mandate is a reinvention.”

15. And finally, Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldaña started dating in 2011, then broke up right before New Year’s in 2012 — a few months before they both landed main Marvel roles as Rocket Raccoon and Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy.

They reprised their Marvel roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. They’ll also appear in the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In 2012, Zoe told the Hollywood Reporter that “Bradley is a very dedicated and open professional,” but in 2014, she told Marie Claire that she doesn’t stay friends with her exes because “there’s a reason why you’re called an ex.”
