Todd Chrisley And His Wife Julie’s Sentencing Has Been Postponed For This SHOCKING Reason

After recently being convicted on fraud charges, Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were to be officially sentenced for their crimes on October 6th. However, the couple’s sentencing date has now been pushed back due to claims that one of the witnesses instrumental to their conviction lied on the stand.

Due to their conviction, Todd and Julie face up to 30 years behind bars but have continued to deny their guilt, blaming a former employee, Matt Braddock, for the crimes. However, Assistant U.S. Attorney Annalise Peters successfully argued that the couple was fraudulent, even without Braddock.

The Chrisley’s Sentencing Date Has Been Postponed

Todd and Julie Chrisley were initially meant to be sentenced on October 6th, but that date has now been moved after the couple, though their lawyer applied for the postponement. According to the documents People obtained, the couple added their former accountant Peter Tarantino, as a co-defendant.

The document reads, “The Government does not object to this request. For good cause shown, the court GRANTS this motion.” In June this year, a federal jury found the “Chrisley Knows Best” stars guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, to defraud the United States, and tax fraud, according to Insider.

Additionally, Julie was convicted of wire fraud. However, the couple have maintained their innocence and denied all the charges. Tarantino was also convicted of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and for willfully filing fraudulent tax returns.

They Filed For A New Trial

According to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court and obtained by People, Todd and Julie, through their lawyers, have filed a joint motion for a completely new trial. The couple’s motion alleges that one of the key witnesses in their initial trial lied on the stand.

It reads, “the government presented and failed to correct false testimony from IRS Revenue Officer Betty Carter, who lied about the Chrisleys owing taxes or years when she knew no taxes were due. This testimony had the effect of falsely painting the Chrisleys as untruthful, likely to commit other forms of fraud, and evading the tax payments alleged in the indictment.”

The motion also accused the initial court and jury of accepting false evidence that violated the Chrisleys’ Fourth Amendment rights. These rights protect all U.S. citizens from any searches and seizures by the government that can be deemed irrational.

Todd And Julie Chrisley Committed Fraud

During the three-week-long trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Annalise Peters convinced the jury that Todd and Julie had submitted several false and fraudulent documents that exaggerated their wealth to financial institutions. These documents allowed them to borrow over $30 million, which they used to fund their affluent and lavish lifestyle.

Peters also claimed that as the couple burnt through their loans, they hid money from the IRS illegally. With their conviction, Todd and Julie now face up to 30 years behind bars once they are sentenced. According to Insider, Peters said, “They made up documents and they lie through their teeth to get whatever they want, whenever they want it.”

Bruce H. Morris, the attorney representing Todd, blamed one of the couple’s former employees, Mark Braddock, for all the crimes. He claimed that Braddock impersonated Todd and committed the fraud, then turned on the couple after they fired him in 2012.

The Couple Have Spoken About Matt Braddock On Their Podcast

In July, Todd and Julie also admitted on the podcast that the lawsuit had deeply affected their family. According to People, Todd said, “As a family, we are still united and standing firm in our positions and in our faith. We don’t waiver in our faith. Now listen. Are we disappointed? Are we hurt? Yes, but we know that God has a purpose for everything.”
