The Boys Season 3 Trailer Sets Up Homelander Vs Soldier Boy – And Billy Butcher With Powers

If the imminent arrival of Top Gun: Maverick has you all hyped up to be playing with the boys once more, then get ready – because soon we’ll also be playing with The Boys. Season 3 of Prime Video’s satirical superhero drama is on the way, promising more blood, brains, and barbed social commentary – and judging by the new trailer, there are all kinds of treats in store. If you’ve seen the first two seasons of the show, you’ll know that The Boys does not hold back on its extreme violence, gore, and what-the-actual-eff-did-I-just-witness moments – and the third run looks no different. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store.

As this trailer confirms, the new episodes are set a year after the end of Season 2 – and Antony Starr’s Homelander is on the redemption press tour after, er, shacking up with Stormfront (a literal Nazi) last time around. Of course, we all know that the guy is still completely cracked – as do several other members of The Seven. As Erin Moriarty’s Annie succinctly puts it: “He’s lost his fucking mind.” But with him regaining sympathy as America’s premiere superhero, there’s one person who could counter his efforts: Jensen Ackles’ incoming Soldier Boy (a clear Captain America analogue, complete with shield). Get set for a juicy face-off between the pair. Meanwhile, Karl Urban’s antihero Billy Butcher is dabbling in dangerous territory, taking time-limited power-ups that offer him abilities for 24 hours per go – a move which doesn’t seem to go down well with the other Boys.

Here’s the official synopsis for Season 3: “It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into The Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first Superhero: Soldier Boy.”

It sounds like another rip-roaring run from a show that continues to be a smart, subversive (and yet also seriously silly) take on superhero mythology – and we’ll be getting episodes pretty damn soon, starting on 3 June. Bring on the carnage.
