Here Are 9 Artists Britney Spears HasCovered

In August, Britney Spears teamed up with Elton John for her official return to music since 2016’s Glory and the end of her 13-year conservatorship. The dance-infused “Hold Me Closer” is a sparkling, fresh mashup of John’s “The One” and, of course, “Tiny Dancer.”

Leading up to the song’s release, Spears took to Instagram to thank John, whom she deeply admires, for asking her to collaborate on the song. “Thank you for your generosity and just thinking of me to join you on such a brilliant song !!!” she wrote on Instagram. “How cool is it to be a background voice ON YOUR song !!! Sir Elton I did it thanks to your genius, creative, and legendary mind !!! I am so grateful !!!”

“Hold Me Closer” went on to peak at No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, and debuted atop the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Sept. 10). “Closer” collected an impressive 20.9 million in radio airplay audience, 11.1 million official streams and 48,000 sold in the U.S. in its first week (Aug. 26-Sept. 1), according to Luminate.

But “Hold Me Closer” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Spears’ paying tribute to other artists that she loves through music. She’s performed and recorded covers of songs from Sonny & Cher’s “The Beat Goes On” and The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” to Madonna’s “Material Girl.”
