Find Out Who Competed – And Won- The Season Premiere Of ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’

After a long wait, the first episode of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” finally aired on ABC on Sunday, September 25.

Although regular episodes of “Jeopardy!” are being hosted by Greatest of All Time tournament winner Ken Jennings until January, “Celebrity Jeopardy!” is being hosted by “The Big Bang Theory” alum Mayim Bialik.

Considering the new hour-long format of the spin-off show, there are now three rounds of “Jeopardy!”, including a “Triple Jeopardy!” round, that executive producer Michael Davies explained in a video that can be seen here.

But for fans just looking forward to what celebrities competed on the season premiere, and, maybe more importantly, who won… scroll on!

The first three celebrities to compete were some pretty familiar faces. Chinese-born actor Simu Liu, 33, joined the Marvel universe last year and starred in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” although he’s also known for his roles in “Kim’s Convenience” and will be appeared in the 2023 “Barbie” movie.

Actress and comedian Egobunma Kelechi “Ego” Nwodim, 34, is best known for appearing as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” She joined the 44th season of SNL in 2018.

Actor, comedian, writer, and talk show announcer Paul Andrew “Andy” Richter, 55, has appeared as a comedian on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” and NBC’s “The Tonight Show.” He is also a previous “Celebrity Jeopardy!” champion.

The first round was largely dominated by Andy. The first Daily Double was in the category “Telling a Bedtime Story.” The clue was “A Seussian home invasion, now that’s what he’ll do!/He’ll mistreat a fish! Turn 2 kids’ home into a zoo!”

Simu made it a True Daily Double and wagered all of the $300 dollars he had earned so far in the game. He guessed “What is Horton?” when the correct answer was actually “What is Cat in the Hat” and his score dropped to zero.

At the end of the first round, Andy had gotten 19 correct and one incorrect and had a total of $5,500 dollars. Simu had $1,200 after getting 6 correct and one incorrect. Ego got three correct and zero incorrect and had a total of $700.

In the next round, Andy continued to dominate the board. The second Daily Double was found in the “Alphabetically Last” category. The clue read: “…. of the New England states; it’s also the least populous.” Andy wagered $2,000 and provided a correct answer of “What is Vermont?”, thus raising his total to $9,100.

The third Daily Double was found in the  “‘R’ Religion” category and read, “A time of fasting, this ninth month of the Islamic year is remembered as when the Koran was revealed to Muhammad.” Ego wagered $1,000 and provided a correct answer of “What is Ramadan?,” raising her total to $4,700.

At the end of the Double Jeopardy! round, Andy had 33 correct and 2 incorrect with a total of $13,300 dollars. Simu had 14 correct and 3 incorrect with a total of $5,600 dollars. Ego had 10 correct and 1 incorrect with a total of $5,500 dollars.

Andy still managed to score an impressive lead in the Triple Jeopardy! Round, although he did not find any Daily Double clues. The fourth Daily Double was found in the “Ab’s” category and read, “This synonym for a deep chasm comes from a Greek word for ‘bottomless.’” Simu wagered $1,500 and provided a correct answer of “What is abyss?,” raising his total to $8,300 dollars.

The fifth Daily Double was in the “In The Apologies” category and read, “In a movie, Cynthia Nixon played this woman called the belle of Amherst and known for poems like ‘I’m sorry for the dead — today.'” Ego wagered $3,000 but could not come up with a correct answer of “Who was Emily Dickinson?” Her total dropped to $4,900.

The sixth Daily Double was in the “The Skeleton System” category and read, “The patella is the protective flat bone at the front of this lower body joint.” Ego wagered $1,500 and provided a correct answer of “What is the knee?,” raising her total to $8,500 dollars.

Going into the Final Jeopardy! round, Andy had 45 correct and 3 incorrect with a total of $21,100 dollars. Simu had 21 correct and 3 incorrect and a total of $11,600 dollars. Ego had 18 correct and 2 incorrect with a total of $10,000 dollars.
