Jonathan Groff Reveals the ‘Funny Girl’ Change He Encouraged Lea Michele to Make for Broadway Revival

Jonathan Groff encouraged his best friend Lea Michele to make a change to the Broadway revival of Funny Girl when she joined the cast as Fanny Brice earlier this month.

The Tony-nominated actor was in the crowd at Lea’s first performance on September 6 and he cried throughout the entire show, which she could even hear while on stage.

“I cried so hard. She told me she could hear me. She was like, ‘I could hear you crying from like the first two minutes of the thing,'” Jonathan told Variety in a recent interview. “She blew me away. I knew she would be amazing, but I was not anticipating this woman to appear with such class and grace and style.”

Jonathan also opened up about the change he encouraged Lea to make.
