Here’s Every Cast Member Who Will Be Appearing In Netflix’s Live-Action Adaptation Of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”
I'm so happy that the voice actor for the cabbage merchant gets to reprise his role in the live-action series.

Here’s Every Cast Member Who Will Be Appearing In Netflix’s Live-Action Adaptation Of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”

Avatar: The Last Airbender is the perfect example of what happens when a show contains powerful storytelling, well-written characters (let’s not forget about their ongoing development throughout the show as well!) and imaginative world-building.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Gordon is best known for his appearances in Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, Lost In Space, Turner and Hooch and The Stand.

Next up is Katara — a fearless and determined waterbender, who doubles up as the motherly figure for Team Avatar. She will be played by Kiawentiio.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Prior to snagging the role of Katara, Kiawentiio had roles in Anne With An E, Beans and Rutherford Falls.

Alongside Katara, we have her brother, Sokka — who provides comic relief and is everyone’s favourite character (but he can also kick butt with his trusty boomerang!). He will be played by Ian Ousley.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

You might remember Ian from 13 Reasons Why when he played Robby Corman in a couple episodes of the hit Netflix series. He’s also been in Young Sheldon, Big Shot and Physical.

As well as Katara and Sokka’s grandmother — known affectionately as Gran Gran. She will be played by Casey Camp-Horinek.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Casey’s previous acting credits include appearing in Reservation Dogs and Rutherford Falls. She is also a long-time Native rights activist, an environmental ambassador and is the Hereditary Drumkeeper of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma.

Then there’s Zuko, a disgraced firebender who undergoes one of the best character developments I’ve ever seen. He will be played by Dallas Liu.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Dallas has already had a huge start to his acting career, appearing in big TV shows and movies like Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, PEN15, Players and Legendary: Dundas.

His sister, Azula, who is a fire bending prodigy that is obsessed with power, will be played by Elizabeth Yu.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

This is one of Elizabeth’s first major acting gigs, so it’ll be exciting to see how she goes playing such an intense character.

Zuko’s father, Firelord Ozai — who ruthlessly rules over the Fire Nation and seeks to conquer the world — will be played by Daniel Dae Kim.

Daniel has had plenty of successful roles, but you’ll most likely recognise him playing and voicing characters in Lost, Hawaii Five-0, Angel, Hellboy, Saints Row and Raya And The Last Dragon.

We can’t forget about Uncle Iroh — who acts as a father figure to Zuko and brings laughter, wisdom and the most beautiful and wholesome energy to the show. He will be played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.

Nickelodeon, George Pimentel / Getty Images

Paul is best known for playing the beloved Appa in Kim’s Convenience, but he’s had plenty of other roles in shows like The Mandalorian and Degrassi: The Next Generation. On being cast as Uncle Iroh, Paul said: “Big shoes to fill by the late GREAT Mako. I hope to do honour and justice to this character while still making it my own. Grateful for this opportunity and excited to start.”

There’s also Gyatso — a kind and caring Air Nomad monk, who is the guardian and best friend to Aang. He will be played by Lim Kay Siu.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Lim has had a successful career in Asian cinema and made the jump to Hollywood in Night Watch, where he starred alongside Pierce Brosnan and Alexandra Paul, and in Anna And The King.

As well as Commander Zhao — a scheming and ambitious Fire Nation military officer. He’ll be played by Ken Leung.

Prior to landing the role of Commander Zhao, Ken appeared in Rush Hour, Lost, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Saw, X-Men: The Last Stand and Inhumans.

Suki, who is the strong and fearless leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, will be played by Maria Zhang.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Besides appearing in a comedy web series and some shorts, this is one of Maria’s first major roles. What an accomplishment!

The legendary Avatar Kyoshi, known in the series for ushering in an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity between the four nations, will be played by Yvonne Chapman.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Prior to landing the role of Kyoshi, Yvonne appeared in Street Legal, Kung Fu and Family Law.

While the wise and benevolent Avatar Roku, who succeeded Kyoshi after she was reincarnated, will be played by C.S. Lee.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Charles has had a huge career, but you’ll most likely recognise him from his roles in Chicago Med, Power, True Detective, Dexter and Chuck.

Avatar Kuruk from the Water Tribe (who was the avatar before Kyoshi) will also be included in the series. He’ll be played by Meegwun Fairbrother.

Nickelodeon, instagram.com

Meegwun is best known for playing Owen Beckbie in Burden Of Truth, but he’s also had roles in Mohawk Girls, Hemlock Grove and Helix.

The ethereal Princess Yue, who hails from the Northern Water Tribe and develops a romantic connection with Sokka (cue Zuko saying “That’s rough, buddy”) will be played by Amber Midthunder.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Amber has a huge start to her acting career, most recently playing Naru in Prey, the latest instalment in the Predator franchise. She’s also had notable roles in Legion and Roswell, New Mexico.

The ruthless and sarcastic bounty hunter known as June will be played by Arden Cho.

Arden has come a long way since starring as Kira Yukimura in Teen Wolf (a series which I’ll live and die for, thank you very much). Most recently, she landed the lead role in Netflix’s Partner Track, and starred in Chicago Med and Miss 2059.

Then, of course, we have Ty Lee — the skilful acrobatic performer who utilises chi-blocking, a form of martial arts, to take down her opponents. She’ll be played by Momona Tamada.

Nickelodeon, Theo Wargo / Getty Images

If you’re a fan of The Baby-Sitters Club (I’m still sad that they cancelled it), you’ll no doubt recognise Momona as she played Claudia Kishi! This is her next big acting gig and based on her performance in The Baby-Sitters Club — which was a standout — I’m sure she’ll knock this one out of the park.

Alongside Ty Lee, we have Mai, Zuko’s love interest who is extremely proficient at throwing knives and stilettos. She’ll be played by Thalia Tran.

Nickelodeon, instagram.com

Thalia’s past acting credits include playing little Noi in Raya And The Last Dragon and Charlotte Perry in Council Of Dads.

Going back to the Earth Kingdom, there’s the eccentric King Bumi who rules over Omashu. He’s a close friend of Avatar Aang and will be played by Utkarsh Ambudkar.

Nickelodeon, Netflix

Also known by his stage name UTK the INC (because he’s a multi-talented genius and puts us all to shame), you’ll recognise Utkarsh from his roles in Pitch Perfect, Free Guy, Tick, Tick… Boom!, The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever and The Dropout.

The Mechanist, known for his useful, but odd, inventions, will be played by Danny Pudi.

Danny is best known for playing Abed Nadir in Community. Most recently, he’s appeared in Mythic Quest, DuckTales and Transformers: EarthSpark.

Koh, the face stealer — who is one of the ancient spirits we see in Avatar — will be voiced by none other than the legendary George Takei.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and have no idea who George Takei is, he’s best known for his role as Hikaru Suli in Star Trek, as well as a bunch of other achievements. Honestly, just go read a book or watch a doco about him because he has an incredible life story.

And lastly, the Cabbage Merchant — one of the most iconic characters in ATLA — will be played by James Sie.

Nickelodeon, Ben Sie / IMDB / Via imdb.com

James is a voice actor that has voiced hundreds of your favourite characters, including the animated Jackie Chan in Jackie Chan Adventures (I totally remember watching this show growing up!). He also has a strong connection to the Avatar universe, voicing the cabbage merchant in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon, as well as Abbot Shung in The Legend Of Korra.

That about rounds up the main cast of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender (here’s the full list of all the characters that have been cast). While there’s no word yet on a release date, the streaming platform confirmed that production has started on the series — and also blessed us with some adorable photos of the cast together.

Netflix

LOOK AT THEM! Ahhhh. I feel like the only one missing is Toph, who hasn’t been announced as being cast yet.

On starting production of the much-anticipated live-action adaptation, showrunner Albert Kim said: “We’re thrilled to start production on this incredible project and we’re especially excited to work with the technology-benders at PXO to create the wondrous world of ATLA using the most advanced techniques available to filmmakers anywhere in the world.”

Netflix

So, hopefully this means it’s a lot better than what we saw in the M. Night Shyamalan movie!

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m getting pretty damn excited to see this live-action come to life. But what do you think and how do you feel about the casting? Let us know in the comments.
