Lizzo Embraces The Sweet Sounds Of A Historical Flute In Concert!

If there’s one thing we know about Lizzo, she knows exactly how to spice up an infectious jam!

Lizzo’s “About Da*n Time” is one of the most popular songs of 2022, no doubt. It’s no secret that one of the most noticeable elements of the track is the catchy-as-heck inclusion of a flute.

Lizzo’s love of a good flute solo hasn’t stopped with her viral single; she’s incorporating her go-to secret instrumental weapon into her live shows, of course! However, Lizzo’s live show last night in Washington D.C. involved a scenario that would understandably be every flutist’s dream!

Lizzo’s flute truly had a moment in the spotlight at the Captial One Arena; the flute happened to be a historical relic from President James Madison’s administration! Read on to watch the hilarious and heartwarming moment where the “Truth Hurts” singer was presented with the historical flute!

President James Madison’s Flute Was ‘Ready 2 Be Loved’

You didn’t think @lizzo played that antique flute on stage without practicing first, did you? She visited the Library Monday & played several of the flutes in our collection, which is the largest in the world. #LizzoAtLOC

Lizzo’s experience with playing the historical flute was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence! According to a news report from NBC Washington, the 34-year-old was extended an invitation to play the flute from the Library of Congress!

The flute also has some strong historical significance; the outlet also reported that First Lady Dolly Madison had saved the flute from potentially turning to rubble after the “White House had been set on fire by British troops in 1814.”

The honor of playing the historical flute was absolutely not lost on Lizzo! She acknowledged the honor while bantering with the Washington D.C. audience.

“It’s crystal,” she exclaimed. “It’s like playing a wine glass!” the classically trained flutist marveled.

The Library Of Congress’ official Twitter account also got in on the celebration.

Lizzo did not go into her big moment without taking some time to prepare! According to the Tweet, she visited the Library of Congress prior to her big performance.

“She visited the Library on Monday & played several of the flutes in our collection, which is the largest in the world,” the tweet reads.

Lizzo’s big moment was orchestrated in part by Library of Congress employee Carla Hayden!

According to the Library of Congress’s official blog, Hayden had reached out to Lizzo on ‘the bird app’ last Friday, praising her songs in a tweet.

“Like your song,” Hayden tweeted, “they are ‘good as hell.”

Lizzo was soon given a tour of the Library of Congress’ flute vault on Monday, where she also took some time to get acquainted with the 200-year-old flute before President Madison’s beloved instrument made the rather laborious journey to the stage for her show last night.

There is understandably a great amount of care taken before such an important item could leave its flute vault home base. According to the post, “curators ensure that the item can be transported in a customized protective container and a library curator and security officer are always guarding the item until it can be secured once more.”

When the big moment arrived last night, the “Rumors” singer had a dash of the butterflies!

“I’m scared,” she exclaimed before working her magic playing “a few notes” on the Madisons’ flute.

The adorable moment was caught on camera, with Lizzo later posting it on her Instagram! The clip was also shared widely on Twitter to the point where the big moment reached trending status on Tuesday morning!

“IM THE FIRST & ONLY PERSON TO PLAY THIS PRESIDENTIAL CRYSTAL FLUTE,” Lizzo wrote in her Instagram caption. “IT’S LITERALLY AN HEIRLOOM- LIKE… AS A FLUTE PLAYER THIS IS ICONIC AND I WILL NEVER BE OVER IT!”

Neither will many of us, Lizzo!

Hayden later tweeted, “This makes my heart swell. @lizzo you are a gift to all of us. And it’s YOU who just made history much more cooler,” she said, referring to a moment during last night’s show when Lizzo proclaimed, “History is freaking cool, you guys!”
