Mayim Bialik Reveals Why Her Mother Sends Her Daily ‘Jeopardy!’ Texts

“Jeopardy!” co-host Mayim Bialik has restarted the conversation about the colorful blazers she chooses to wear on the long-running trivia game show.

“The Big Bang Theory” alum claimed earlier this year that “Jeopardy!” fans were taking to social media to criticize her outfits, alleging that fans were “upset” that she wore the same orange blazer one too many times.

However, in an interview on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on Wednesday night, the 46-year-old actress revealed that she gets text messages from her mother critiquing her outfit after every episode airs.

Mayim Bialik Claims That Her Mom Sends Her Screenshots Of Her ‘Jeopardy!’ Outfits After Every Episode

In the interview, the “Blossom” child star revealed that her mother did not know anything about “Jeopardy!” when her daughter was first selected to guest host the show. Mayim said that her mother was “excited, but she didn’t know anything about what ‘Jeopardy!’ is,” adding, “She kept asking me, ‘Why is everything in a question?’ That’s a true story.”

After she started hosting regularly, Mayim revealed that her mother started to send her screenshots of her outfit with a “little report” of her compliments and critiques about her wardrobe.

“She will send me screenshots of every episode in case I forgot what I was wearing in that particular episode,” Mayim said. “I’ll get a little report like, ‘I really liked this blazer, not so crazy about this top.’” The “Call Me Kat” star also mentioned that her mother tends to grab a screenshot when she is making an unflattering face.

“In the middle of it, and I would just think, like, ‘She’s got a whole half-hour — find a better screenshot,’” Mayim joked.

Mayim Suggests People Prefer Ken Jennings As Host Because She Is A ‘Female’

In a February 2022 interview with Variety, Mayim talked about splitting hosting duties with “Jeopardy” Greatest Of All Time tournament winner, Ken Jennings, who set the #1 win streak for 74 games won in a row back in 2004. Ken is currently hosting the show until December 2022, and Mayim will take over the show again at the start of the new year.

The “Beaches” actress had nothing but positive things to say about her “Jeopardy!” co-host. “Ken is so beloved, so incredible. He’s on a whole other level in the ‘Jeopardy!’ universe. When I first met him, I was so excited,” she said, adding, “And he’s tall. I never thought he was as tall as he is.”

Although fans were pretty vocal that they preferred Ken Jennings to take over the role full-time, Mayim thinks that the preference was due to her gender more than her familiarity with the game show. “I’m female, and as much as men and women can and should do the same things, women are perceived differently,” she said.

“I really try to be a neutral presence as much as possible so that it is not an issue,” she continued. “I get to be myself. I make a lot of stupid jokes. Ken and I both want to highlight our contestants, make them feel comfortable, and make them feel good. The way he says things, I’m assuming he probably knows all those things. For me, I get to read them like, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’”

That being said, Mayim did admit that there was a learning curve. “I have two red buttons, but they removed one,” Mayim said, referring to her hosting podium. “I accidentally hit the wrong one, so they took it away. They left my other emergency button in place. So I have a defunct emergency button.”

“Speaking Jeopardese, as we call it, is an acquired skill,” she explained. “Not saying the same thing every time something is right, having each commercial break sound a little bit different, those are all challenges.”

“I think the steepest learning curve is also [having] someone in your ear,” she added. “You are processing a lot of information in real-time. When things go wrong, it’s hard because wrong can mean they have to reset the whole board. Wrong can be very time-consuming. There’s a lot of pressure. It is a high-pressure job that I do in heels.”

Mayim currently hosts “Celebrity Jeopardy!” which airs Sunday nights on ABC.
