The Boys Season 3 Trailer Shows Homelander's Madness & Soldier Boy's Powers

The Boys season 3 trailer teases new supes, new conflicts, and plenty of bloody action. Based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson, The Boys is a more mature and raunchy take on the superhero genre, featuring more sex, violence, and profanity than is usually the case for it. The premise focuses on an underground group of humans trying to take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their power, using everything they can despite most of them not having powers themselves.

The show stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, and Tomer Capon as part of the titular vigilante group. Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and Dominique McElligott appear as part of The Seven, the most powerful superhero group on the planet run by Vought International, a corporation that not only helps create superheroes, but covers up their heinous deeds, while promoting them as celebrities. Joining The Boys season 3 is Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess, Langston Kerman as Eagle the Archer, Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder, Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic, and Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk.

The latest trailer for The Boys season 3 teases more of the story than has been revealed as of yet, which has Homelander in PR mode after his debacle last season when he got entangled with Stormfront, who turned out to be a Nazi, while Billy Butcher looks to level the playing field in his war against the supes by becoming one of them (temporarily). There’s also a number of new characters seen throughout the trailer, including Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who looks to appear in flashback, as well as modern-day in the new season, complete with some rather extreme powers. The introduction of Soldier Boy also brings the introduction of Payback, the earliest form of The Seven, who appear in the series as a team of supes during WWII. Payback acts as a parody of Marvel’s The Avengers, with each character from The Boys representing one of the founding members of Marvel’s team. It appears that The Boys will explore the backstory of Payback, Soldier Boy, and the rest of the team, before bringing Soldier Boy back to modern times, similar to Captain America’s origin, albeit with a more mature and bloody angle.

The latest trailer for The Boys season 3 shows a lot of promise for the highly-rated superhero show, continuing with the narrative tracks that have been laid since season 1. It’s one of the most entertaining shows on Prime Video, helped largely by the no-holds-barred style and fearless storytelling when it comes to going over the top in dissecting, parodying or representing the superhero genre. No other superhero series is doing what The Boys is doing, save for Peacemaker on HBO Max, which makes it a unique standout among the many comic-book themed shows on the air. The Boys season 3 debuts on June 3rd on Prime Video.
