Dwayne Johnson has been telling us for months about how the “hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change,” ahead of his upcoming movie Black Adam. But it turns out that he’s also changing the hierarchy of spoilers. Instead of some rando on Twitter, Johnson himself is the one dropping spoilers for the movie. Spoilers follow for the post-credits scene of Black Adam.

Black Adam centers on The Rock’s character, who in the comics is primarily a nemesis to Shazam, who wears a similarly styled costume. But the movie is packed with characters–namely the Justice Society of America or JSA. That includes Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher (no, not the guy from Cyberpunk 2077), and Cyclone, all of whom we’ve seen in previous trailers and clips. But the film conclusively connects the events of Black Adam to the current catalog of DC films through this post-credits scene.

In the post-credits scene, Johnson’s anti-hero will come face-to-face with Superman himself, once again played by Henry Cavill. Cavill has portrayed the character in DC films since 2013’s Man of Steel, and it’s been rumored but never confirmed that Warner Bros. and Cavill were both moving on from the pairing, but it seems like that’s set to change.

“For years audiences have been so passionate and vocal about… we’ve established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on our planet,” Johnson said. “But the fans have been so passionate about, as we have been, where’s the most unstoppable force in the universe? Where is he?”

“Just like I fought hard for Black Adam for fifteen years,” The Rock continued, listing other members of his Seven Bucks production team who have worked with him. “We’ve all been fighting for this moment. So I will say this: Welcome home.”

There’s another interesting tidbit in that sentence. The Justice League movies contended that the “age of heroes” had returned with the rise of Superman, after millennia of no supernatural activity on Earth. The Justice Society, though, has been around for years according to Black Adam trailers, so how can they be on the same Earth? They might not be. Johnson says his character is the most unstoppable force on ‘our planet,’ and then implies that Superman is the most unstoppable force in the universe, suggesting that Black Adam may be happening on an Earth in another corner of the multiverse. With The Flash on the way to kick the Multiverse open, that’s certainly plausible, though this is pure speculation.

As for Cavill returning to the role, there’s no word from WB or Cavill himself about Superman’s return in other movies, so this may be a fun cameo, or it may be the start of something bigger. Johnson wants Black Adam and Superman to battle it out in another film, recently telling CinemaBlend that he wants to see the two characters exchange blows.

Black Adam hits theaters on October 21, 2022.
