Big Bang Theory Star’s Young Sheldon Season 5 Finale Role Revealed

Producer Steven Molaro reveals The Big Bang Theory star’s role in the Young Sheldon season 5 finale. The CBS comedy is down to its last episode of the season. The last few weeks have been tough on the Coopers after Georgie accidentally got his girlfriend pregnant. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like things will get better for Sheldon and his family before Young Sheldon season 5 wraps up.

CBS is preparing a special Young Sheldon season 5 finale for fans as its premiere comedy. The Big Bang Theory’s ongoing year has already involved a couple of milestones, including celebrating its 100th episode, which featured the return of McKenna Grace’s Paige. For its season capper, the show is bringing The Big Bang Theory star, Teller, who previously played the role of Amy’s dad. However, this time, he teams up with his performance partner, Penn Jillette, for a couple of unconventional cameos.

In an interview with TV Line, Molaro reveals that Teller is playing the voice of Pus while Penn brings Acne to life. In the Young Sheldon season 5 finale titled “A Clogged Pore, a Little Spanish and the Future,” the creatives decided to personify Sheldon’s first pimple, marking the beginning of his puberty. Read the producer’s full quote below:

“We thought it was a fun idea to personify the pimple, so we were thinking about who would be right for Acne Vulgaris. When we landed on Penn, he seemed so perfect, and it’s hard not to think of Teller when you think of Penn. Once Penn agreed to do it, we circled around to say, ‘How would you guys feel about doing it together, as Acne and Pus?’ They were very into it, and just a delight to work with from beginning to end.”

“We were attracted to the idea that something as small and simple as a pimple could cause such psychological torment for him. It’s interesting to see the onset of puberty, and to touch on Sheldon’s feelings about all the problems that the adults are having around him. Now that he’s becoming an adult, is this what life has in store?”

This isn’t the first time Young Sheldon deviated from its grounded storytelling. In season 3, CBS brought The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco to voice the pool water that Sheldon was dreading for PE. This time, Cuoco’s voice cameo went uncredited until it was confirmed after the episode aired. This time, Teller’s guesting stint is being used for marketing the upcoming episode. It’s curious, however, if Molaro and his writing team decide to include a cheeky comment from the adult Sheldon narration about Pus sounding a lot like his father-in-law.

Penn and Teller’s voice cameo in the Young Sheldon season 5 finale is an indication that the episode will also substantially focus on Sheldon and his personal arc. The socially-inept genius has been sidetracked the last few weeks as the Coopers become preoccupied with Georgie’s current problem. Meanwhile, George ad Mary’s worsening fights are also taking a lot of the show’s screentime. Young Sheldon Season 5 airs Thursdays on CBS.
