Marc Marquez told Honda must fix the ‘worst bike’ as MotoGP campaign ends with crash

Marc Marquez has had to tolerate riding the ‘worst bike in the MotoGP class’ according to World Superbike Champion Neil Hodgson.

The Honda driver capped a very frustrating MotoGP by crashing on the 10th lap at the Valencian Grand Prix. The crash meant the six-time world champion capped a season blighted by injuries and frustration in 13th position.

While the Spaniard did admit he broke too late when he slid off at Turn 8, he also claimed he was unable to find the torque like he was able to in the practice. And Marquez’s frustration were also felt by Hodgson, who believes the majority of his struggles can be laid at the door of his bike.

“I think he will be ready to fight for a world title next year,” Hodgson said exclusively to Daily Star Sport, when asked if he feels Marquez can get back into the title conversation next year. “The big question is, will the bike be ready?

“The Honda is the worst bike, at the moment, in the MotoGP class. That is hard to believe, because it was always the best for years.

“But they’ve lost a lot of direction with that motorcycle.” Preparations for the 2023 season are already underway as the Official Valencia Test is now underway.

Marquez is accustomed to competing at top end of the MotoGP, but he had to content himself with a place at the back end of the table, as Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo fought out a pulsating campaign.

And Honda must start to make a breakthrough on their bike if Marquez is to jostle himself back into title contention next year. :They are testing here which is an important test, to try and find some good direction to make the bike better,” Hodgson added.

“But, as it stands, Marquez will win races next year but I don’t think he will win the title because the bike is not good enough.”
