Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds intends to buy second sports team – but needs ‘sugar daddy’
Hollywood actor and Wrexham Football Club owner Ryan Reynolds has confirmed his intention to purchase his second sports team.
The Deadpool icon completed his takeover of the Welsh football club in 2021, partnering with fellow movie star Rob McElhenney. Reynolds has become a hugely popular figure in English football, having helped oversee Wrexham’s recent bid to get into the Football League.
The 46-year-old was in the stands at Wembley when Wrexham were narrowly defeated 5-4 by Grimsby in a pulsating play-off final last season. However, Reynolds also confirmed his intention to add Canadian Hockey Team the Ottawa Senators to his sporting portfolio.

“I am trying to do it,” Reynolds said to ‘The Tonight Show’ when asked about the idea of buying the NHL side. “But it’s very expensive.”
He went on to joke: “I need a partner with very deep pockets.” The Melnyk family, who are the current owners of the hockey side, are reportedly exploring the possibility of selling the Sens, seven months after owner Eugene Melnyk passed away.
However, as Reynolds stated, the new owners will need to have significantly large pockets as the Hockey team is believed to be worth around £571million. But Reynolds remained hopeful a takeover could be completed, if he is able to assemble a consortium to purchase the team.

“It’s called a consortium when you form a group together to buy an entity,” Reynolds added. “It’s a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mummy or a sugar daddy.
He also added: “I grew up in Vancouver which has my heart, always, but I also grew up in Ottawa. I spent a long time in Vanier, which is a little town right inside Ottawa."
If there was any doubt about his love of ice hockey, Reynolds ensured everybody knew that the pulsating sport will always have a place in his heart. He said: “It’s scary but children are eased out of the womb in ice-skates in Canada. They are NHL ready by the age of four.”
