Stranger Things Cast Tease The Importance Of Creel House

Stranger Things stars Sadie Sink and Caleb McLaughlin reveal how important the Creel house is going to be to season 4. The Netflix series, which is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana during the 1980s, originally premiered in 2016 to instant acclaim from both critics and viewers. The story follows a group of citizens who discover that the town houses a portal to the otherworldly dimension known as the Upside Down, from which a variety of terrifying monsters can emerge. Season 4 of the series, which is split into 2 parts, is coming nearly 3 years after season 3, partially due to pandemic-related production delays. The time has finally come, however, with Stranger Things season 4 part 1 premiering on May 27, 2022, followed by part 2 on July 1, 2022.

Season 4 will be bringing about some changes, including the introduction of new regular cast members Jamie Campbell Bower as Peter Ballard, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn and the promotion of Brett Gelman from recurring to regular. The show will also introduce new locations, including the Creel house. While not much is known about the house so far, promotional materials have been heavily featuring the location, which is rumored to be haunted after the former owner murdered his family. In the series, Victor Creel will be played by ’80s horror icon Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

Screen Rant had the opportunity to sit down with McLaughlin and Sink to talk about the upcoming season. During the chat, the topic turned to the fact that the characters will generally be split up this season, following their own independent storylines in one of several main locations in California, Russia, and Hawkins. While McLaughlin said that “everyone is going through their own thing,” Sink revealed that the Creel house would be key to the overarching mystery this season, calling it “a really important location.” Read the full quote below:

Caleb McLaughlin: Yeah, I think it’s very interesting. Watching the show, I’m like, “Wow…” Actually, how much can I say?

When you see the poster, you see there’s four different area sections: there’s California, Russia, Hawkins – and then another spot that I can’t really say. Everyone has their own storyline, but within those storylines, everyone has their own storyline. It’s weird; each spot. Everyone is going through their own thing.

Sadie Sink: The Duffers really just had this vision for each location. Obviously, we have Hawkins, which we all know and love. But we get to explore the Creel house this year, which I can’t say much on that. But it’s a really important location, in terms of solving some of this season’s mysteries.

Each location has a different feel and vibe to it, and also just the distance between the characters. There’s lots of challenges that come with that; with not having the entire group together.

The Creel house seems to be the one place where the cast may be most likely to be united despite the disparate threads running throughout the season. Most of the images of the location thus far reveal some combination of characters gathered together to explore its terrifying confines. It has also been revealed that they will discover a portal to the Upside Down in the attic, which may be the source of the terrifying new monster that was teased by the newest Stranger Things poster.

In order to make up for the long wait, Stranger Things season 4 is going to have to pull out all the stops. While the split storylines may rankle with fans who prefer to see the whole gang together, the Creel house seems to be the ideal location for their reunion. It perfectly falls within the ’80s horror wheelhouse that the series is always trying to evoke, landing somewhere between Elm Street and The Amityville Horror.
