Bears’ Justin Fields sets single-game QB rushing record in loss to Dolphins

In just his 19th career start, Chicago Bears second-year quarterback Justin Fields has made NFL history.

On Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, Fields rushed for 178 yards, the most by a quarterback ever in a regular-season game.

In breaking the record, Fields unseats Mike Vick, who set the previous high of 173 yards in 2002. Fields’ 178-yard outing is the most by a quarterback since Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson rushed for 152 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019.

It’s the second time Fields has broken the century mark in rushing yards, with the first coming against the San Francisco 49ers (103 yards) last Halloween.

Fields got a big chunk of his yardage on Sunday, scrambling for a remarkable 61-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Along with his big day on the ground, Fields finished 17-of-28 for 123 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Unfortunately for the Bears and Fields, it wasn’t enough, as they fell to Miami, 35-32, falling to 3-6.

Despite the loss, Sunday was another big step in Fields’ maturation as a quarterback.

“I think I’m just growing, getting better each and every week,” Fields said. “My main goal right now is to continue to do that. To continue to trend up each day at practice. Just keep getting better and better. That’s really all you can do.”
