Cristiano Ronaldo ‘trying to get sacked’ – and Jamie Carragher doesn’t get ‘disrespect’

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher thinks Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview was a means to try and get himself sacked at Manchester United.

Ronaldo has left the footballing world gob-smacked with his earth shattering interview with Piers Morgan. He has launched scathing attacks on the likes of current United manager Erik ten Hag, former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, and the club’s hierarchy.

It is the latest, and perhaps, most significant chapter of this tumultuous United campaign that began with him reportedly asking for a move out of the club. As well as claiming he does not understand why Ronaldo believes Ten Hag has been disrespectful, Carragher also thinks Ronaldo is looking to get his contract torn up.

“He wants to be sacked,” Carragher said to Sky Sports. “I think that’s obvious.

“He told the club in the summer he wanted to leave. So I’m not sure where this disrespect comes from Erik ten Hag, I just don’t get this at all.

“But, I think he [Ronaldo] is disrespecting Man United and Erik ten Hag. He wanted to leave in the summer, which is football, these things happen, players come and go at different times.

“But he wanted to leave, there were no takers, because maybe of his wages, maybe it was a price Man United wanted. I think he knows that is going to be the same in this next transfer window or maybe the following summer.

“And, I think he is now basically trying to get sacked or allowed to leave on a free transfer by the club. As I said, that is the only way he is going to get out.” Ronaldo will join the Portugal squad in the coming days for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

United’s first Premier League match back will be on December 27 at home to Nottingham Forest. All eyes will then be on Old Trafford to see what, if any, involvement he will have.
