Molly McCann ‘feels she let people down’ after UFC 281 loss to Erin Blanchfield

Molly McCann has spoken after her loss to Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281, which came after a first-round submission against the impressive American.

McCann was the heavy underdog going into the fight, but had the support of the New York fans to the surprise of some, with Blanchfield growing up in New Jersey.

But the 23-year-old American dominated proceedings from the beginning, quickly taking down McCann before getting in the crucifix position and being able to land dozens of heavy blows which McCann was unable to defend.

The Liverpudlian had no quit in her, as she looked to get out of the precarious position, but Blanchfield was able to lock in a kimura lock as Joe Rogan had been begging McCann to tap, before eventually being forced to do so in the first-round.

After the fight BT Sport had spoken to McCann, who said she was 'devastated' and 'feels like she let people down'.

BT Sport reporter and presenter Caroline Pearce said: "Just spoke to Molly McCann backstage. Gracious in defeat but obviously devastated & said she feels she let people down. But let’s not forget the two devastating finishes she had this year. Wants to make amends in the UK next year."

Molly McCann was disappointed in herself, but is already targeting her comeback

UFC president Dana White told BT Sport that a card would return to the UK in the first quarter, with McCann already making her intentions clear that she'd like to fight on the card.

McCann remains in a good position though, with wins in three of her last four fights, and can quickly put herself back in the top 15 with a win in her next bout – likely to be at the upcoming UK card.
