Chelsea have named Paul Winstanley as their new transfers director after raiding Brighton & Hove Albion once again.

Winstanley, who has spent the last eight years at Brighton, will join Chelsea with immediate effect after being appointed as director of global talent and transfers. He also becomes the sixth member of staff to make the switch since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in the dugout at Stamford Bridge back in September.

Prior to his role at Brighton, Winstanley previously worked for both Wigan Athletic and Derby County before his arrival in Sussex as talent identification manager in 2014. He was later made the club's head of recruitment.

Discussing the appointment, Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said, via the Daily Mail: “Paul is going to be a great addition to Chelsea.

“He's highly respected and is a key senior addition as we continue to build a world class sporting team with a huge depth of talent, ambition and commitment who will work closely with us to drive Chelsea forward. Paul shares our philosophy and will fit seamlessly into the organisation.”

Meanwhile, Winstanley himself added: “I'm thrilled to be joining Chelsea and to continue working with Graham Potter and his team.
