Newcastle fans have joked Kai Havertz had more fights than shots on goal during Chelsea's clash with Magpies on Saturday evening.

Havertz was at the centre of clashes between the two sides after the full-time whistle had sounded and tensions had boiled over. Players from both sides had to play peacekeeper as Chelsea's German star appeared to be at the heart of the disagreement.

The German has struggled to make his mark on the game for 90 minutes as Newcastle moved up to third in the table. And it led to Newcastle fans making the cruel joke about his performance.

One fan tweeted: "Havertz had more fights started (1) than shots big flop!"

"Havertz thinking he's hard, I'm crying laughing, mate you're f***ing awful," a second added. While a third tweeted: "I reckon Dan Burn hadn’t forgotten that elbow in the face from Havertz at Stamford Bridge [last season].

And one Chelsea fan was so irate at his performance, he said: "I was wishing Kai gets a punch or an injury so we don't have to see him till he's sold!"

Joe Willock's wonderful strike was enough to separate the two sides at St James' Park – after he latched onto a heavy touch from the in-form Miguel Almiron. Newcastle then held on to record a big win with some resolute defending.

Chelsea have now lost their last Premier League games – and the last four out of five in all competitions – their worst run since 2002. Newcastle meanwhile are the country's most in-form team and head into the World Cup break optimistic about their prospects of securing a top four spot and earning a Champions League place after the season resumes in December.
