Why Black Panther 2 Is Phase 4’s Best Potential Avengers 5 Set Up

The events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever can lay the foundations for a new Avengers team in Avengers 5. The individual members of the Avengers were at the core of the MCU throughout the Infinity Saga, with each installment either building towards an Avengers team-up or dealing with the aftermath of their battles. Despite all the new characters introduced in Phase 4, the MCU hasn’t established any solid setup for another franchise-wide team-up. However, that could change before Phase 5 comes.

Although Wakanda is an essential location within the MCU, it hasn’t displayed the influence one would expect after revealing itself to the world. The Wakandan throne opened its doors at the end of Black Panther and took a stand against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, but besides helping Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson in their fight against the Flag-Smashers in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wakanda is yet to show how much it can change the world. Fortunately, not only can Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduce the new Black Panther, but it can also transform Wakanda into the home of the next iteration of the Avengers.

The events of Captain America: Civil War presented superheroes as entities that need to be supervised. That’s easier said than done, much more so in a world where new heroes and villains constantly pop up without warning. But at a time when the legal status of individual superheroes is not entirely clear, Wakanda can come in and sponsor the MCU’s next Avengers team, guaranteeing that they can be free to make their own decisions and be held accountable by a reliable government. After all, Wakanda’s decision to share their resources with the world makes them a trustworthy authority.

Regardless of whether Wakanda chooses a new ruler or dissolves the monarchy in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it could eventually select and represent a new team of superheroes internationally, potentially making them available for other governments in case they’re needed across borders without many legal controversies. Wakanda can also provide the team with the necessary resources, training, and gear in order to be more prepared for future threats as big as Thanos. Of course, this also brings some risks, as the rest of the world—or the Wakandan citizens themselves—can begin to distrust Wakanda’s power. Nevertheless, as the Avengers’ new headquarters, Wakanda could become a modern-day Olympus for the godlike heroes of Earth.

In short, Wakanda’s status as a generous and transparent kingdom makes it an asset for the next Avengers team. New heroes such as Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Shang-Chi, and She-Hulk would worry less about legal and political obstacles and instead put all their focus on protecting the planet. While Avengers 5 may come much later than Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the Black Panther sequel can start setting the basis for a more prepared group of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
