A World Cup advert from 2010 predicted Wayne Rooney living alone in a caravan with a bushy beard.

Nike launched a stunning commercial ahead of the World Cup in South Africa titled 'Write The Future'. It involved a whole host of the world's elite footballers at the time, including Didier Drogba, Fabio Cannavaro, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rooney himself.

The theme of the advert followed the title in that players' actions on the pitch would impact their future. And fans got a glimpse of a reclusive Rooney if his career ended up going south.

As part of the plot, Rooney misplaces a pass to ex-Arsenal star Theo Walcott against France, which is intercepted by recently-retired winger Franck Ribery. The Manchester United legend then envisions his future, which involves him throwing his boot at the mirror, becoming a football groundsman and finally, living miserably in a caravan with a fully grown beard.

Advert Rooney fortunately gets his act together and decides to prevent the harrowing outcome by running back to execute a perfect last-ditch challenge on Ribery. The ad then shows the striker as a hero back home, being knighted by the Queen and seemingly becoming a table tennis champion.

Unfortunately for Rooney, the real tournament in South Africa would go on to be one of England's most lacklustre. The Three Lions drew their opening game with the USA 1-1 despite an early Steven Gerrard goal.

A 0-0 draw against Algeria followed, sparking the boos of the travelling England fans. That led to Rooney lashing out post-match, telling the camera: "It's nice to see your own fans booing you, loyal supporters."

Fabio Capello's side finally went on to beat Slovenia 1-0 and qualify from their group, before being knocked out by rivals Germany in a 4-1 thriller.
