Footage of an old advert for Paddy McGuinness' football DVD has resurfaced online – and it's left fans feeling "vile" due to one joke in particular.

Phoenix Nights star and Take Me Out host McGuinness was the frontman for a 2007 DVD titled All Star Balls Up, a footie gaffes compilation aimed to show 'how footballers are overpaid, oversexed and over rated' in a series of funny clips.

Several figures from both on and off the pitch made appearances throughout including the then-Sky Sports trio of Chris Kamara, Alan McInally and Paul Merson, who featured in a short scene at the end of the ad.

They were acting, if you can call it that, as staff to McGuinness, polishing some silverware in the kitchen of a mansion believed to have been owned by him.

"For the love of Christ, what are you doing," asks McGuinness as he walks in on them. Kamara replies: "Just polishing your trophies sir."

McGuinness then questions: "What about him," pointing towards Merson, who turns around with an awful look on his face to imply he was in fact playing with himself as McInally adds: "Best not to say."

The skit divided opinion online. One person commented: "The absolutely vile ‘joke’ at the end of this advert for Paddy McGuinness’ football DVD, Paddy McGuinness All Star Balls-Ups, has been stuck in my head since the day I seen it. Proper scarred for life stuff."

Another replied: "Jesus christ. Merson really acts it too which makes it both better and worse." And a third added: "I have sooo many questions."

Others found it hilarious, with one tweeting: "Laughed, cried, was enthralled. 10/10." Someone else wrote: "I’ve been laughing for five minutes straight think I might die send help."

"Incredible stuff. I used to have this dvd and thought it was the peak of comedy," said one. Another declared: "The era of early 2000s football blooper DVD's is unmatched."
