A quarter of working-class adults feel they are overlooked for jobs due to social class
More than a third (35%) of working-class adults are “desperate” to find a job in their chosen career – but a quarter believe they have been overlooked due to their social status, a study has found.
Nearly half (44%) of adults in lower social grades feel they have to try harder than others to achieve their career goals, according to the poll of 1,600 people in grades C2 to E.
Almost a quarter (23%) struggle to do themselves justice in a CV or covering letter, while 27% of those who have ever looked for work believe a lack of interview experience has hindered their chances.
And almost a fifth (18%) admitted limited access to a computer or the internet has similarly stalled their efforts to land jobs.
Commissioned by Samsung, the study found that despite such hurdles, 39% claim to have an “entrepreneurial spirit”, but fear they don’t know how to apply it – suggesting guidance from an expert could make all the difference.
