Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy was described as a "sexual predator" who created "toxic" environments in order to be able to rape young women by prosecutors at his trial at Chester Crown Court on Thursday.

The 28-year-old is accused of seven counts of rape against four different women, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault.

The alleged offences all took place in his Cheshire mansion, where it's understood he regularly threw parties, against a total of six women on five separate occasions.

Mendy denies all charges and claims all sex was consensual.

His defence lawyer Eleanor Laws claims he and his co-accused, Louis Saha Matturie, have wrongly been portrayed as "monsters".

Matturie, 41, stands accused of six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault in relation to offences against seven different women.

Matturie, a friend of Mendy's, is alleged to have played the role of 'fixer' by inviting women back to the footballer's house. There, the duo are accused of locking the women in 'panic rooms' and taking away their mobile phones.

Prosecuting KC Timothy Cray asked the jury to imagine a loved one calling them at 3am to say they were heading back to the home of 'a great guy and he's got a famous friend'.

"This is somebody we love. We go back to sleep. Does your mind go back to the young women in this case and the images of them start to come to mind? Sitting there telling you what happened to them," Mr Cray said.

"The truth is you say get out of that car right now because you know, don’t you, that for all the good qualities of Ben Mendy’s character there’s a dangerous streak in him that makes him a predator."

Mr Cray then branded Matturie "another predatory rapist" who shared the "same dangerous streak" as Mendy. He asserted that both men "controlled" the "toxic situations" and that they "had an arrogant assumption that if you are at a party you are good for sex".

He added: "It all comes down to one factual question. Do I think the woman I saw giving evidence in this court is telling me the truth between her and the defendant she accuses?

"More specifically, are you sure that the complainants told you in their different ways that they did not want to have sex with the defendant, that they were telling the truth?"

Defending KC for Mendy, Ms. Laws, said: "The reality is this is one word against the another. There’s been no witnesses or films of any of these complaints that are left to show you what has happened."

Laws said the fact that the prosecution had dropped the charges of one woman against both Mendy and Matturie when video footage emerged of her and Matturie having sex, demonstrates that her story was a "lie".

Ms Laws went on to claim the women "enjoyed dancing and flirting with men" and 'taking risks", adding that ''every single woman wanted to go" to the parties at Mendy's house.

"These women decided for themselves," added Ms Laws.

The trial continues.
