Fans rip into Cristiano Ronaldo after ‘daddy’ opens up on telling son about suspension

Fans have ripped into Cristiano Ronaldo after "daddy" opened up about telling his son about his suspension.

The Manchester United forward admitted that it was humiliating to have to tell his son that he had been suspended after leaving Old Trafford early in the win over Tottenham, which left Cristiano Jr in a state of disbelief. Ronaldo opened up on the conversation with his eldest child during the second part of his interview with Piers Morgan, which has landed him in hot water with the club.

United are understood to be considering sacking the 37-year-old after his comments about the owners, manager and his team-mates in the two-part conversation with Morgan.

Discussing the conversation with his son, Ronaldo explained: “But I remember arriving home and Cristiano saw me and said ‘Daddy do not go to the game?’ I say ‘No, because the club punish me with three days’.

"And he did like (laughs) 'How are they going to punish you if you are the best player in the world and you're not gonna play?’ I said ‘No I'm not gonna play because I have not been behaving’. And he look at me like, ‘My Daddy not be behaving, what?’

“In one way, I was good because I was like, more relaxed, but in the same way, I feel very disappointed because, okay, I regret, I apologise, I'm not perfect, I made a mistake. But suspend me three games, for that, I think it's too much. And then they make fire for the press, which really disappoints me.”

Ronaldo, who is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, went on to speak about his treatment by Erik ten Hag since his arrival as manager in the summer.

The Dutch manager has used Ronaldo sparingly so far this season, leading the Portuguese international to exclaim: “If you don’t have respect for me, I'm never going to have respect for you."
