The former health secretary joined the camp as a late arrival, along with comedian Seann Walsh.

Moments into the show, viewers saw the two meet for the first time before they discussed their tastes in music. Walsh showed a tattoo he had in homage to Blink 182, while Hancock performed a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect to showcase his musical tastes and, er, talents. Fans of the show didn’t much like it.

It was at this point, fans of the show started switching off the Liverpool Echo reported.

Taking to Twitter, KTP said: “Swiftly turned off, I don’t want to watch Matt Hancock. MasterChef for me”.

Danny said: “Get this guy off my screen now”.

OnlyT said: “F*** Matt Hancock and every farcical politician like him. Get him off my screen. Can’t enjoy this show when it makes a mockery of the lives of the people by having him on. I’m genuinely disgusted”.

Anyone else finding this chummy normalisation of Matt Hancock repulsive?
He tried to close down my local Lewisham Hospital. He’s one of the disgusting crew who has led us as a country where we are now.
Ignore this creep. This chancer. No trials. Nothing. Then out.#ImACeleb

This idea that Matt Hancock should be regarded as some kind of Covid war criminal is nuts. He did his - sometimes shit - best to protect society and individuals in the face of a highly infectious novel disease. The guy may be a vain plonker, but he's not evil. https://t.co/LFJjGFu1QW

Never mind #ImACeleb and trying to win meals for a jungle camp, Matt Hancock should be in the UK, in his office, and delivering for constituents wondering where their next meal will come from.

And the unease around Hancock’s arrival in the jungle was also felt by contestants on the show, including Boy George who became visibly upset when talking about the former health secretary’s inclusion on the reality show.

The singer said his mother was seriously ill in hospital during the pandemic, and indicated he felt uncomfortable “sitting here having fun” with Hancock, the BBC reported.

Boy George added that if his mother had passed away, he would not have been on the show. "I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself," he added. "I’m not good at hiding what I feel. Especially when it’s something so strong."

Speaking ahead of his debut on the show, Hancock said: “I have never come across a snake at close quarters and so I am pretty worried about anything to do with snakes. I am not claustrophobic or at least I haven’t been found to be but that’s the thing about I’m A Celebrity – it is the unknown.

“I’ve watched the show over the years, I love how it gets down to the essence of people but it’s really entertaining as well.”

Addressing whether he thinks his colleagues in Parliament and the British public will be voting for him to do trials, he added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up doing some of the trials. I am hoping I can win some stars for the camp, but most of all I am looking forward to being myself.”
