Emotional Cristiano Ronaldo opens up on baby’s tragic death and wants to know ‘why us’

Cristiano Ronaldo has described the tragic loss of his baby boy as one the most difficult moment of his life having simultaneously welcomed a daughter with long-term girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

The Manchester United forward has described his heartache during his interview with Piers Morgan, having announced back in April that one of their newborn twins had sadly passed away.

He said: "It's probably the worst moment of my life since my father died. When you have a kid you expect everything to be normal and when you have that problem it's hard. When you're a human being as I am… me and Georgina had a difficult moment because we don't understand why it happened to us."

Ronaldo added: "I tried to explain sometimes to my family and my close friends that I had never been happy and sad in the same moment. I had never felt (that way). It's hard to explain. You don't know whether to cry or to smile."

Georgina, who is from Argentina, has helped raise Ronaldo's other children, Cristiano Jr, 12, as well as twins Mateo and Eva, five, since meeting the footballer back in 2016.

Georgina then carried four-year-old daughter Alana before falling pregnant with twins last year.

He wrote on Instagram in a joint statement signed by the couple at the time: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

"Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
