Stephen makes fun of Hawkeye and Ant-Man in a new clip from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So far, much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 has been about the multiverse, starting with the Disney+ series Loki and continuing with Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fresh off his appearance in the latter as the culprit who started the movie’s multiversal mess, Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular sorcerer will now be tasked with a dimension-hopping storyline of his own.

Multiverse of Madness is written by Loki scribe Michael Waldron and directed by the original Spider-Man trilogy helmer Sam Raimi. Cumberbatch returns to lead the cast alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, who will be more of an adversary than an ally to Strange, as she was last seen studying the Darkhold in WandaVision. Also occupying a large amount of screen time is America Chavez, a young girl capable of traveling the multiverse, portrayed by Xochitl Gomez in her MCU debut. With the Doctor Strange sequel right around the corner, audiences are getting their last looks at the Marvel movie before it premieres.

Now, some new footage from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has found its way online before the film arrives in theaters. Courtesy of @DrStrangeUpdate on Twitter, the 40-second clip shows Stephen imploring Wanda to help him protect Chavez from the power-coveting demon known as Gargantos. When Wanda asks Strange why he didn’t go to another Avenger for help, the snarky sorcerer takes a dig at Hawkeye and Ant-Man. Watch the full clip below:

Throughout his time in the MCU, Cumberbatch’s character has frequently been called everything from arrogant to cocky, quippy, and sarcastic. In this clip, the sorcerer definitely lives up to his reputation with a wisecrack aimed at his fellow Avengers. However, it’s hard to argue with Strange’s sentiment. Hawkeye and Ant-Man are mostly street-level heroes and in their own solo projects, they often deal with less consequential threats. Therefore, they wouldn’t be of much help in a multiverse of madness replete with sorcerers and magic.

To help protect Chavez and deal with a threat like Gargantos, it’s understandable why Strange would recruit the help of “one of the most powerful magic wielders on the planet.” However, it’s not likely to go over well for Strange as there has been every indication that Wanda will take a villainous turn in the movie. The wait for this highly anticipated conflict is almost over, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6.
